TV - 65" Hisense R8F (Costco - $510) FS

$509.99

Just reduced another $60.
From Costco's site:
Features:
  • Motion Rate 240
  • Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision HDR
  • Local Dimming: 60 Zones
  • Works with Voice Assistants
  • Screen Size: (64.5" Diag)
I ordered this last week. It was on sale then for $570. Nice budget TV. Big step up from the 6 series. Plenty bright. Colors look good. Really hard to find something to complain about at this price.

Side note for those that bought this on sale recently - don't forget to score your easy $60 by doing an online price adjustment!

It's the Roku version of the H8F.

Long story short, picture quality is pretty solid (between the 5 and 6 series TCL) and local dimming works well enough, however motion blur is bad. Like real bad - worse than my 3 year old entry-level 6000 series Samsung. I ended up returning my 55" I got for $350 back to Costco the same day, then jumped on the TCL 6 series deal for almost double the price.

If you don't game or watch any sports, you'd probably be fine, but if you do... yeah I'd at least get the H8G.

I would pony up and get the TCL 5 or 6 series.

This is tempting. But I am expecting some Super Bowl sales in a few weeks. Looks like Costco only included their higher end tvs in their Big Game sale so this might be as good as it gets for a lower end TV with the Costco warranty.

If you watch sports, I'd avoid. This set has pretty bad motion blur.

Purchased a 55 inch mid December. This is an outstanding TV. In Vivid mode it is brighter than the TCL. Price is $200 under the TCL.

I brought the Hisense 55R6095G5 from Costco last week for $330. It's an upgrade from my 8 year old 42". I've been looking closely for things that might bother me but seems decent to me so far. I don't game or follow sports but the nature programs I have been watching don't seem to have any motion problems with soaring birds, running cheetahs and so forth. What am I supposed to be looking out for?

I did notice on Costco's new ad that the TV is now $20 cheaper. Does Costco refund the difference?

The one thing I don't like is the Roku UI and remote and that would be the main reason I might return this. There is an LG on sale in the price range I want to spend - model 55UN7300AUD.AUS. I like how the remote looks on this one. Is this any good in comparison to the Hisense?

They will do an exchange/return for all items up to 30 days. With a TV I'm guessing that they will just make an adjustment for you. I've had them do that in the past on larger/more expensive items.

As for Roku - it's generally fares well vs brand specific OS's. I haven't used the LG OS so I can't speak to it. Would recommend catching a review on YouTube.

That was my experience as well. Happy with my TCL but the brightness on this Hisense is a big upgrade.

Vivid mode is just applying over saturation to the picture. It's not realistic colors at all, more like comic books.

Quote :
Avoid Vivid mode

The preset mode to avoid is Vivid mode or Dynamic mode (sometimes called Standard mode). This setting drives up brightness and color settings to their maximum output, blurring details and exaggerating bright colors.

So why is there a Vivid mode? It's intended as an in-store demonstration mode to help a set stand out next to the dozens of other TVs in a brightly lit big-box store. Beware: Your set may be left in Vivid mode by default.
