There's an amazon review that says the BC30 backup camera is not compatible with this GPS. Is this true? I could not really understand the review after reading it a couple times. Quoting it here.

I am extremely disappointed and am returning the DriveSmart 65 with Alexa and the BC30 backup camera. This is junk. Garmin says the BC30 backup camera is compatible with the DriveSmart 65 with Alexa but it isn't because you sacrafice using the DriveSmart 65 AUX jack to your vehicle radio—there isn't an AUX port on the BC30 cigarrette adapter power plug like there is on the DriveSmart 65 cigarette power plug so this means you can't play the Garmin sound through your vehicle sound system if you want to use the BC30 backup camera with a Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Alexa. I'm so ticked that Garmin says the BC30 works with DriveSmart 65 with Alexa when it doesn't. That's the whole reason I bought this—to have a backup camera in my Garmin and be able to use the Garmin to play the sound from my Garmin unit through my vehicle audio system via the AUX port on my vehicles head unit. The BC 30 most certainly IS NOT compatible with the DriveSmart 65 with Alexa—-you lose AUX cable functionality of the DriveSmart 65 with Alexa because the BC 30 cigarrete power cable doesn't have an AUX port like the DriveSmart 65 unit does. What a scam—Garmin needs to quit saying the BC 30 backup camera is compatible with the Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Alexa because it IS NOT. I would have never bought this unit and camera if Garmin hadn't lied and sait it is compatible. I just wasted a ton of time and now have to hope
for a refund because I've opened the boxes for both. That's crap Garmin! I expect more
out a company such as yours.

If you have cellular data turned off, it won't guide you back to the right direction.
Or if you're in an area with no cell service.

From the Garmin DriveSmart™ 65 with Amazon Alexa product page [garmin.com]
Quote :
Drivers should focus on driving and only use this function when safe to do so. The Garmin Drive app must be open and running on the user's smartphone in order for the Alexa functionality to work and for access to live services.
So yes, if you don't connect it to your phone via Bluetooth, Alexa won't work.

Based on their product page, you lose the following functionality when not connected to a smartphone:
  • MUSIC
  • CALENDAR AND TASK LISTS
  • NEWS BRIEFINGS
  • SMART HOME CONTROL
  • LIVE TRAFFIC AND WEATHER
  • TRAFFIC CAMS AND PARKING
  • HANDS-FREE CALLING
  • SMART NOTIFICATIONS
Otherwise, the core GPS features should work just fine.

How can you know if you didn't do the route both ways?
Look at the destination times.
Google takes into account all the cars on the road using it. Not so much with GPS
GPS makes no adjustment for traffic and stop lights. Google does
actually you are wrong. this garmin takes into account the traffic. when it comes down to it garmin is more accurate because it has an obligation. google has no obligation for the information to be accurate (it's free) or it's algorithm to be the best, if google info is wrong you have nobody to blame but yourself.

i have used both, the biggest difference are: street updates, and social traffic apps like Waze. in areas that are developing rapidly google map may show more up to date information, but if you reside in a developed area garmin would be a better device. as to the traffic report, both garmin and google obtain their information from local jurisdictions . . . however garmin algorithm in my opinion is better. what makes a difference however is the social app like Waze . . . depending on your situation it may be a better selection for traffic and 5-0 detection (the speed of this information usually is faster than both google and garmin, however, the accuracy also may times is incorrect.

That is incorrect or misinformation Even if you neither have data plan nor no cell service, Google or Apple maps on smart phone till led you to your destination with its own GPS. I tried several times.

At least the Garmin thread getting better. LESS stupid opinions and debates about google map, waves, phone bigger than Garmin.
