Just received mine for $109 without Alexa, should I return and buy this instead? How's buydig return policy?
Only $6 extra dollars, so i guess if you ever plan on using using Alexa

TA20 or GMT 60 cable? Both support traffic, google for the difference

Mine came with a TA 20
GTM60 is what you need for traffic.

Sorry if silly question... I've used these and TomTom back in the day but then Google Maps happened. Why would anyone buy this over Google maps?

That's just a regular power cable. What you want is GTM60 cable, you get traffic without phone connection.

No lighter plug in? The lighter cable is the traffic cable

That won't work for a lot of people - myself included. I need access to my phone, as a phone, during my drives. Many people need a dedicated GPS, a larger screen, etc.
Off interstate, there many pockets with no phone signal. Dedicated GPS is a must on those roads.

How and how often do these get updates? Like, when it says "Lifetime Maps" does that mean consistent updates?
The 'lifetime' in lifetime is horseshit. I had one that was about 5 years old and they didn't make maps for it anymore.
Go look at their garbage website for map updates before you buy.

Years ago I had one of these dedicated units with lifetime traffic -- until I got my iPhone. Especially with offline Google maps on phones, these dedicated units are now obsolete and somewhat of a target for those wanting to smash & grab.
I disagree. The screen is larger on these units over an IPhone and easier to view with the included mounts. I've had at least three Garmins in plain view in my vehicles over the years. No theft. (Ironically, probably because of the perceived no street value of the unit, which is ok by me.) Much easier to access saved places, create complex routes, and make changes on the fly in particular with the units with voice command. Love my Garmin!

Seriously. Try just an ounce of critical thinking: larger screen, larger antenna, works in areas your phone won't, and allows you to use your phone for its intended purpose )as a phone) while still navigating your route.

My phone is 6'8 and nobody needs a huge screen anyways because we're supposed to listen to the directions and not take our eyes off the road. But what do I know... I ride a bicycle and support public transportation like a good semeritan.

Phones have a built in antenna.

My phone works everywhere, if not then it's roaming but all that doesn't matter because I have maps downloaded and updated weekly.

Obviously you need to seriously think because that's why they're called Smartphones 😒

I would like to let everyone know that my unit came in like new condition. I used it for about a week and see absolutely nothing wrong with it cosmetically and it works perfect! The cable is also plenty long for any vehicle I suppose. These models come with North America maps so I answered my own question that I posted before purchase that no one answered. I see that GPS units have evolved quite a bit since my last standalone GPS the 3.5 inch TomTom One. The update using Garmin Express was about half hour to 45 min. I like how the unit starts up quick and is ready to go in about 20 seconds or so. I also like that once you have it linked to your phone via Bluetooth it gets the temperature and weather forecast. Alexa works great too just like the home version. Anyway I'm rambling on. If anyone has any questions I can try to answer them if this goes on sale in the future and this thread comes back to life.
