OP. Please add GSM to the title. In the US we have two different technologies. GSM and CDMA. AT&T is GSM / Verizon is CDMA. They are not cross compatible.
Updated. Thanks.

Thinking about having an elderly friend order this G7 Plus to replace her Huawei Mate SE which will stop working on At&t Prepaid next year. Kinda hesitant because of battery life reports and the fact that she's used to the Mate SE's strong battery. I'm thinking the unlocked G8 Power for $145.00 at Bestbuy may be better for her. BB has that Tracfone/Simple Mobile $100.00 off an unlocked phone deal going right now.
As long as she doesn't need nfc or face unlock and the weight of that phone isn't a problem it may be a better choice for that use case.

It's pretty thin so not much protection. I personally do not like bulky covers.

Tempting ... 3.5mm headphone jack, 4GB RAM/microSD, USB C charging, band 71 for T-Mobile.

If only it had Qi wireless charging and was slightly cheaper.
All that plus wireless charging for less than $100?? OK

Not likely. It isn't on the Motorola list for Android 11.

I have this phone and the G7. Any case that fits a G7 will fit the G7plus. Unless you want a perfect fit around the camera, use a standard G7 case.

It comes with Android 10, NFC and all the updates through October 2020. I have mine on T-mobile. The band 71 does improve signal quality.

I love the Motorola haters because that means Moto phones will remain inexpensive.

Curious if the G7 Plus has the same Bluetooth issue as the G Power (2019)? Motorola had several models that had interference on 2.4ghz WiFi when Bluetooth was turned on. There was a pretty big discussion thread on Moto support forums about it. I ultimately sold mine because it made WiFi calling with a Bluetooth headset drop out.

I received this G7+ and it is our 2nd one. !st one battery last 3 days, but this one barely half a day. Trouble shoot it already, maybe after a few more days, it will calm down from downloading updates

The batteries on these are not great. The upside is the rapid charging feature on these is very good.

Is the hardware/price worth the trade off here where it won't have much software support going for it?

I own one of these and I personally don't think I would buy it right now at this price.
* Motorola doesn't seem to be supporting it
* It doesn't work with all carriers

For me, the main reason to buy this device is if you need NFC support at this price. There aren't many new devices with NFC support at ~$100

I got this last time on a whim for $70 for use on Tello GSM that is going live now. https://blog.tello.com/news/new-g...ble-plans/

No GSM sim yet but the spec are nice and I want to try the camera. Thought about returning or flipping but covid put a damper on that. Also the restock fee at BB was ridiculous.

Wife just broke her Pixel 3a today and needs a quick replacement. Best Buy offers free next day shipping so I picked one up as a temporary phone. This is a solid deal and works on T-mobile, all I'm really looking for at this point.

While I like Moto phones and think they provide great value I prefer the Pixel lineup. This G7+ should do just fine until a deal comes up on a Pixel 4a 5G. Then I can repurpose this G7+ with one of the free add-on lines we recently scored from T-mo. I wasn't planning to buy a phone today but this deal worked out. Thanks OP.

NFC isn't a deal breaker for me as it's just a backup device. No plans to use Google Pay or share content via NFC.

Which device would you go for? I feel like my hands are tied on the Moto side with a 2021 model because the 2020s won't have good software support.

I feel like the Moto G Play or G Power (3gb RAM) models are my likely choices.

Prefer to spend $200 or less.
