Is the Gen 3 Surfacebook a ton better than gen 1 and gen 2? Was lots of problems in the previous generations of this model.
I have the first gen with 'maxed out' specs and absolutely love it. No problems at all, the battery life is even still excellent. The upgrade to the gen 3 is tempting but honestly my original is still working great for me. These just really don't have a competitor in terms of quality, function, and usability. However, if you want 'just a laptop' there are certainly cheaper alternatives that work just fine

Why not someone buy a similar specs LG gram or Lenovo carbon X1 around $1000?
Or MacBook pro for same price.
This is not a deal at all.
If you're considering a macbook you don't understand what a "deal" is lol this is in a different league, hence a higher price. If cheapness is your only goal I'd still buy a first gen Surface Book used before any Mac book

Which version is this ? Trying to keep up with all the different models and years. Is this their most recent model ?
Yep, this is the newest Surface Book! There will probably be a 4th gen in a year or two, and they generally release a Surface (not surface book, just surface) every year.

I didn't realize there were Microsoft fan boys. Obviously, this is in direct competition with the macbook. Let's be honest here folks, I've had gen 1 and gen 2 of this. Both prior generations were plagued with problems. A simple Google search will confirm that. If you didn't have them, great, you were lucky. Many of us had debilitating issues that made them completely unreliable. In addition, the functionality is neat, but it has some serious issues as well. Issue 1, it's WAY too top heavy. It would drive me nuts and wanted to tip over backwards on my lap. Issue 2, when using just the tablet, you lose the gpu so you can't have anything open with the gpu when you detach. I've heard the 3rd gen is better, but I don't have any first have knowledge.

My top end fully loaded Surface Book 2 experience was plagued with graphics card issues where the screen would stay black upon waking, forcing me to hard reset the machine. It also had performance issues and handled Excel spreadsheets very poorly.

Replaced with a top end fully loaded Dell Precision 5540 and have overheating issues, Bluetooth audio/connectivity issues, and ultra low quality integrated webcam.

If Microsoft and Dell can't get it right, then who can? I beg you... provide me with a perfectly reliable laptop and you'll earn a perfectly reliable customer.

Surface Books are excellent, lust-worthy computers.

But beware: the problems they can be plagued with are numerous (see Clinkinfo's post), and Microsoft Support has gone rotten.

I am a fan of technology, to some of the stoneage people, let me tell you this, I have MacBook, I have been using MacBook,I have a full fledge Linux machine, I have Lenovo Carbon X1 from job and HP Elite Laptop and I used all of them. I had Surface and Surface Book which I sold them recently, beacuse over the preriod of time they become almost useless. Hands down, the build quality is really great, but, overall experience was not that good.
Now, why I compare to MacBook for your pea size brain, let me tell you, when people compare Laptops with MacBook, including myself, others will come in defence which is right, that, you cannot compare a 1.5K MacBook with $500 laptop, here this Surface book is direct competitor of MacBook, same price, same build quality.
Even my Carbon had few issues, but MacBook and Linux machine(BTW Linux laptop is the weakest amongst all my laptops in terms of specs, but mostly run better than 5X expensive and 5 times more specs MacBook and Windows laptops), since MacBook iOS is nothing but, a glorified UNIX system so it works really good.
The real issues here is Windows OS weakness and flaws.
So next time before opening and giving vauge opinion, study the technology first.
My experience has been the opposite, maybe you got lucky with your Mac. I know most of my friends have had major issues with newer apple products in terms of quality.

Yes, newer I also know that having few issues, but mostly Microsoft machines having more issues than MacBooks. Beside that, I just close my MacBook for days and then open and start using. If I do the same thing with Windows laptop, they will freeze. Just one example.
There are several things...

Hmm very weird, I'm sorry to hear that since mine has been such a great machine! I have problems with my Dell laptop provided by work constantly, but I think that's mostly due to the corporate software they have on it. The Surface Book is buttery smooth 99% of the time for me

Foaming at the mouth for the 2021 LG Gram 16 inch 2 in 1 coming this year. Hope it's not crazy priced.

Just try not shutting down or restart any Windows machine for few days and check the performance.
