All surfaces are such a waste... No one asked for those form factors... Xps 13 Lenovo yoga 13 are much better.
Microsoft : great execution on a bad concept

This is the Ice-Lake version, the CPU was first released in 2019.

We are in 2021 now, rumors indicate new gen of Surface products with updated Tiger-Lake and Ryzen 4000 CPUs are imminent. (within the next month or so). Any price drop by major retailers further confirms this.

My experience has been the opposite, maybe you got lucky with your Mac. I know most of my friends have had major issues with newer apple products in terms of quality.
No. Your "friends" did not have major issues with their Macs. At least, not that weren't resolved by apple. I hate when this whole "gotta stand up for company x" crap happens. I have them all as well, thinkpads, Macs, Android, iphones, etc. Apple is EXCELLENT at what it delivers. The products are generally amazing build quality and apple is an incredibly customer focused company. Yes, they have had some issues (like the keyboard), but they generally resolve it with warranty extensions and options (for example, they gave me a brand new 16 inch when my 15 inch had 2 keyboard failures in a row). That's the kind of stuff they generally do. The surface book has had a terrible history of problems. It's a wonderful concept for functionality, and amazing build.... BUT, like the other poster has tried to warn, it has serious software/hardware issues. I'm not bashing Microsoft, I love all the tech for what it is. But the reality is, you really should understand what you're buying. If you want the honest answers, listen to me and some of the others here warning you. If you just want to be a fan of the functionality or Microsoft, so be it. That's cool, just be prepared to troubleshoot.

For anyone looking to buy Surface Book 3 13.5, I would recommend this little adapter for the MicroSD card. I use on a Surface Book 2 and I am able extend hard drive space to the surface book 2 at a cheaper cost than spending for extra cost on hard drive size (storage capacity):

https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-MicroSD-Adapter-Microsoft-Model-350A/dp/B01AT7ECA2/ref=sr_1_3?dchild... [amazon.com]

So you can buy the 512 gb model and then buy a good micro SD card for 512 GB (somewhere around $100) and bump up the surface to 1 TB. Just make sure to get a micro SD card with fast write and read speed like maybe the San Disk Ultra or something higher. Still way cheaper than extra $500 for hard drive space.

My top end fully loaded Surface Book 2 experience was plagued with graphics card issues where the screen would stay black upon waking, forcing me to hard reset the machine.
Mine has the same problem but with Windows+Control+Shift+B you can restart the graphics stack and get the screen back.

I am also having problems with USB resources on the Surface Book 2. Even with the docking station it constantly drops USB devices which is really annoying,

Overall I would buy something else next time. The tablet part doesn't work well and it's quite slow to other laptops I have at work.

Cpu inside is useless in today's terms so don't allow shiny look of the laptop fool you. Good screen and keyboard,
but old cpu and wrong price positioning. Still expensive despite the discount.
Both Google and Microsoft devices come out with the double price because of the brand name.
