About this film:
Visionary filmmaker Peter Jackson presents a startling new adventure unlike any you've seen before. Hundreds of years after our civilization was destroyed, a new world has emerged. A mysterious young woman named Hester Shaw leads a band of outcasts in the fight to stop London – now a giant predator city on wheels – from devouring everything in its path.

I really wanted to like this movie but just was not good
It's certainly not among my favorite films and I wanted it to be amazing. Maybe even spawn a franchise (especially given the talent involved). After seeing the trailers, I thought we were getting the closest thing to a live-action Final Fantasy (7 or 8) film we'd seen yet.
I watch it in sort of the same way I watch the first Hunger Games, if you will. Intriguing premise and fantastic visuals peppered with some iffy line delivery, acting and writing here and there. Steampunk meets your typical Hollywood YA novel-to-film adaption over the past 10 years (Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, etc.). This movie basically becomes the first Star Wars (1977) Death Star battle for the entire third act (not spoiling anything) Five bucks for the Blu-ray + digital copy, figured some out there like me might pick it up for similar reasons at that price

Saw this on an airplane. I didn't mind aspects of it. Probably wouldn't rewatch it, but I also usually don't rewatch something. It was pretty imaginative, and I guess it was nice in a way that it is different than the typical sci-fi(?) movies I would see
Id agree with Rev on much of what he said which is what drew my wife and I to it in the first place. I really tried to like it, but my god, the acting, writing and execution were bad.
I'd call it extremely YMMV, but I noticed one of my Google Play accounts was offering a $1.49 movie rental. I haven't rented anything on that account in a very long time and I'm sure it's a limited offer. Might be worth trying: https://play.google.com/store/movies

I'd recommend reading the book or listening to the audio book. The movie wasn't very good but the original story is.
I agree. One of my favorite series I've ever read. Great characters and locations throughout the series. Even if you watched the movie, the book and the movie have different endings.
We have perhaps a generous taste in movies like this, yet harsh for other things. I would say $5 is a strong consideration. Is it for everyone? No. Does it have some fans? Likely. I feel like it is the kind of thing I would watch if I found it channel surfing back in the day of channel surfing. So for $5, worth it to have in your physical collection of movies. I imagine it will see a cheaper price for digital-only folk at some point.
I just figure the 4k might reach $5 at some point and would rather wait on a movie like this where we might dig it out once every other year or so. I haven't actually checked the disc comparison reviews yet, but would always prefer an Atmos/DTS:X mix and good HDR over standard 5.1/7.1 and a standard color range.
