No. That doesn't work. You have to buy it in its 4K version to get 4K elsewhere. What sense does it make to be able to buy something in HD and get it in 4K everywhere else? Also, no... "some" providers do not automatically upgrade your movies for free. Apple will upgrade something if you bought it from them when they didn't have it in 4K and then they offer the 4K version in the future. You can't just buy something one place and then have some other place give you a free upgrade. Lol. Come on, dude.

Can confirm that other MA platforms (iTunes, Google) only recognize this as HD when purchased through Amazon, which is HD. (There was no 4K option in Amazon for this title)

it's not that it didn't make sense, i just feel like Nolan tried too hard to make it super intricate, but it was just too much. he tried to outdo himself but didn't work as he planned

People asking if you can buy this on Amazon, in HD, and have places like Google Play or Apple TV upgrade it for you via MA: The answer is, no. Apple and Google will upgrade movies to 4K for free, but that's only if you bought it from them when all they carried was the HD version. They're not going to upgrade a movie you bought elsewhere. If you buy this in HD on Amazon, it will not be 4K on any platform. What sense would it make for a company to give you a free upgrade for something you bought somewhere else? Lol. I swear... Some people have a complete lack of common sense.

I rented it from redbox a week or so ago. The machine offered the opportunity to buy they BR disc for $6.
