So I gotta ask : if you trust your smart phone's option of disabling voice control to make it not listen and spy on you, wouldn't you put the same faith in home systems like google and echo? It only sends stuff up when the key words are said. Also, if you want to verify, you could put some packet sniffers on your router.
This isn't listening and spying on you.
Yes, it turns on automatically when it is initially plugged in. No need to power on separately. We've been using these for the past 8 years with our kids, and now in other bedrooms. Highly recommended!! Occasionally, I've had to use a white noise app on a vacation or whatnot and it doesn't compare to this machine.

Do these have all of the same sounds as the Micro [amazon.com]? Tough to tell on some review videos with poor audio compression.

Yeah, I have a nice unit that plays rain, and such noises that I never use anymore. Now I just say Echo, play Brown Noise.
