Military OneSource's 'MilTax' product is just a skinned version of H&R Block Premium (Level above Deluxe), once you make an account on OneSource it redirects you to H&R Block and activates the Premium software. This is for Active, Guard/Reserve, and Veterans.

This sounds like a great deal for military and veterans! Just be sure to weigh the pro's vs. con's of using any "online tax" service vs. tax software running on your own computer, so you can make an informed choice.

Any ONLINE tax service is a very juicy target for hackers, and it's probably only a matter of time before their servers get hacked (and your data with it, including your SSN and info needed to steal your identity).
Servers that hold that kind of data are juicy targets for both foreign government hackers (such as Iran's army of hackers and North Korea's army of hackers), not to mention the numerous non-governmental, world-wide, criminal hacker teams.

(Think about this: How realistic is it that an "income tax" business has a huge enough "cybersecurity budget" to prevent their data servers from getting hacked into, when even the U.S. Government with a nearly unlimited "cybersecurity budget" can't prevent hackers from hacking their data servers?)
One prominent "online tax" service already had their servers hacked into some years back, and sooner or later it will probably happen to others also. So, one big advantage of downloading tax software onto your own computer (versus using an ONLINE server based tax service) is that your data is stored on your home computer and so not likely to be hacked.

For myself, paying $18 - $25 each year is a very small price to pay for not having to worry about my identity being stolen (which can be very expensive to clean up, not to mention MANY hours of my free time I'd lose if the next hacker breach hits the "online tax" server that contains my SSN, dob, and info about all of my bank/brokerage accounts).

Looks like you have to be within 365 days of end of service according to the website:

Military OneSource eligibility [militaryonesource.mil]
Q: Why are military retirees not eligible for services provided by Military OneSource?

A: Military retirees and those service members discharged under honorable or general under honorable conditions are eligible for services provided by Military OneSource for up to 365 days after their retirement date, end of tour date, or discharge date. There are also programs to support veterans and military retirees available through the Veterans Benefits Administration and the retirement services program at military installations. To locate contact information for a Retirement Services office near your location, visit the MilitaryINSTALLATIONS website.

Veteran for over 20 years here (not retired) and I'm able to log into the site to use this feature and many others like free access to Consumer Reports. As noted on the IRS site, this feature is available for vets. Hope that helps you out! https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-...d-veterans

Once again I thank you. I just completed my taxes through the military onesource website for free. This is an amazing benefit I wish I had known about years ago.
