This is a great price for a tempered glass chair mat - even cheaper than most hard plastic plastic chair mats of the same size.

I am kind of pissed, I bought this for $60 three weeks ago and thought that was an awesome price. Amazon won't adjust my price so I'm tempted to return and re-buy but I was so happy to get this for $60 that I don't want to take advantage of Amazon, I'm sure the shipping for this is more than $15 due to the size and weight. Especially since before finding this glass mat I bought a hard plastic one for $50 (which was the best deal I could find for plastic) and I am returning that one which is now selling for $60 [amazon.com].

As for the quality, unlike plastic mats, glass is glass so all tempered glass mats should be of comparable quality. I'm happy with mine and have no complaints.

Edit: Just noticed this was a few bucks cheaper last February and that was a popular FP deal.

Costco's everyday price on this is $49.99. Lowes has it for $47.xx. Not as hot as the OP is making it out to be.
I ended up getting rollerblade wheels instead. IMO much better than a plastic or glass mat.

This is a very far from true statement. Quality, thickness, manufacturing, qc... all play big parts.

I have a wooden chair mat that's going on 10 years. The most annoying thing about it is that it will shift over time on the carpet. i have to recenter it about once a month.

Other than that, my chair rolls great on it and I suspect it will last another 10 years.

Agreed on the inline skate / rollerblade wheels. 5 minute job to swap the poor wheels that chairs often shit with to a set. Huge improvement!

I have used the glass and bamboo 'mats' in the past and while and improvement over the plastic versions, the mich larger diameter wheels of the inline skate replacement reduces the need - plus no marks, quieter, etc on hard surfaces!

No experience with this one in particular, but I've had a 40x60 one since 2012. Hands down the best home office purchase I've ever made. Cost me $199 plus $40 shipping then, and I'd gladly pay that much now after having it for 8-9 years.

I've dropped a few things on it that I was afraid would shatter it, but never had a chip or break. I roll on a HM Aeron with stock casters and it sits on standard pile carpet. Carpet doesn't get destroyed and rolls better than standard office carpet.

Hi SDers! Thought I would chime in so far my experience. I purchased the 46X36 Lorell Tempered glass almost exactly a year ago. Struggled with the "no crack" crappy options that exist year after year. They always crack as my chair and I are both heavy. So, I bought the roller skate wheels that others have tried and returned them. Basically they were fine, but I would always just make marks/pits in the mats because you are distributing the weight better, but then you could not roll when needed. These can withstand good distributed weight (1000 pounds) with no issue. However, can break with the right strike of metal object.

I was so happy with my purchase, bought second one in early Feb for wife. Paid $58 and then about $42, so $45 is good if you don't/can't do Costco. Outside of desire to keep it glass clean, there are two main issues. 1. They will likely move/slide on carpet requiring adjustment weekly/monthly. 2. You will roll off if you move the chair a reasonable distance because if you measure, they are not that big. Thankfully the edges are still good when that happens and I believe these are BY FAR the best value if you do choose to go glass. I move my chair a lot because I now have a sit/stand desk. I have found a few companies outside of Amazon that will ship the 60x48 for under $85. If you feel the small size will work for you and you need it now, posted deal is good.

Just an FYI, if you were to place a layer of automotive tint (the glue on, not the static cling) or security film to one side of the glass it would prevent the pieces from going everywhere in the event of a break. Just put the tint side down to the carpet and you will still have the smooth rolling of glass.

If you've ever had a side window or sunroof break in a car, you know what I'm talking about with the little pieces. Any sort of laminate glued to it will stick the pieces in place.

IKEA has a hard, rigid plastic one for $20 if anyone's interested in protecting their floor and wanting to save some $$ (and has an IKEA nearby). I have it and it fits under the desk feet without tilting it too much or making it uneven.

Depending on the thickness of glass one and your setup, you might want one with a "lip"

You'd be better off changing the casters...

I've worked in the glass industry for almost 15 years and I would not use a glass chair mat.

I've worked extensively in testing and design around glass safety and can just say that this is a stupid idea for so many reasons.

Even quarter inch tempered glass is weak at the edge and any hard impact there will pop it. So, something on the floor, how long before you hit the edge the wrong way?

Oh well, suit yourself.

Has anyone experienced any accidental kicking of the lips on these? kind of worried me or someone like my kid might be walking or whatever and stub their toe on the edge (i've never used one of these but been wondering about them). I bought a gray one from Costco a year ago and it's not that great since its softer material.. it leaves dents so its hard to roll out of yourself after sitting in one position for a long period of time.

I probably want something hard plastic that you can't really roll up/bend, i have one from ages ago that's able to fold in half due but other than that you can't roll it up or bend it, can't find anything like that (for a decent price at least) but i think i need to just go instore to check them out since ordering online it's hard to tell the quality.

i need a new mat at home, it'd be nice to stop getting little piece of plastic embedded in my feet... but even with that happening, not way in hell i'd use glass.
my god what a silly idea.

maybe in a full frame, with tapered edges? even then, it's not like i drop things... but if Mr. Murphy and his law has taught me anything, it's going to end badly Stick Out Tongue

Lots of people concerned about stubbing toes...it's a 1/4" thick.

Overall, I feel it's akin to discovering the advantages to high quality cookware, knives, computer mouse/keyboard, luggage, vehicles, tools, watch, furniture, etc. The lower quality has it's place and will get the job done, but when you find one of those exceptional products, you vow to never get anything less.

You won't know until you do. Glass chair mats (if you're on carpet of any type) are a life changer, imo.

I have a treadmill I use under my desk for telework. Seems risky to put a treadmill on glass.

Yes but at the same time, look at the reviews. I have a dining table and two coffee tables made with tempered glass and they've been hit with all kinds of things, and so far so good. I also thought this was a crazy idea, but it seems to work and people love it. The company selling these would go broke with returns if they shattered that easily.
