This seems like a great price considering it is the only laptop with this form factor and resolution at that price.

They don’t brand them as MaxQ anymore. The GPU has a rated TGP from nVidia and the laptop maker is free to do whatever they want as far as performance/power levels. This is really going to confuse the market since the only way to know where the performance/power levels are for a given device is via benchmarking. In some cases a 3070 mobile will outperform a 3080 mobile, so don’t buy anything until you e seen the reviews and benchmarks on it.

Also, why is this so much cheaper? Very similar specs. Is it just because it bulkier?

Warning to 30 series mobile gpus they dont all perform at the same level. for example 3070 in a Aorus may cost more and actually perform better than a TUF. watch review per device.

FYI I had an option to apply a 10% off coupon as a 'birthday month' reward during checkout for this pre-order. I think it was relating to signing up for MyRewards...I must've used a fake birthday since mine actually isn't for 2 months. Not sure if it is too late to sign up and get the coupon in Jan., but it did successfully take $180 off the price, which already seemed like a great deal for the specs.

I'm a bit nervous about ordering this since the G14 and G15 had gone on sale numerous times, including shortly after their release...but the extra 10% make me feel like I'm less likely to see a better sale price in the near future. Although who knows for sure, as competition in the laptop space does seem to be heating up. A bit disappointed about it having no webcam, though. Not something I'd use often, but certainly more convenient than having to use an external one...

Guess I can always cancel it or return it unopened if I have buyer's remorse.

Any benchmarks out for this yet? The reviewers are saying to get benchmarks first because you won't know the power draw of the card unless the company releases the specs prior. You could end up with a 3080 that preforms worse then a 3070 in another laptop.

yea so far the reviews are hit and miss. some of these numbers aren't very appealing compared to 2070s or 2080s...

9500 TimeSpy. 80+35w. Not a performer. Many people buy it for the look tho.

These are Asus slimmer form factor gaming laptops. Like previous years, it's most likely going to have max-q cards. While yes, people don't like them, they do have a market for it. Slimmer, lighter, easier to travel with. last years were 90watt variance with boost brought it to 105watt or so..

Buddy of mine had the same thing happen, 10% off birthday even though it wasn't. Not bad if you get it!

I pre-ordered. I also had a 10% birthday coupon in my account. I'll see if any competitive deals show up in the next 2 weeks.

2021 and still no web cam. Can't even use for zoom class.
Yeah, this seems like a huge oversight by their engineering team given the criticism of last year's lack of webcam, and you know the whole global COVID shift to increasing video calls.

Just a heads up, the power draw for the gpus for these new laptops makes a big difference in performance and it's even harder to figure out that number. It might be a good idea to wait for benchmarks so you can get all the details and know which laptops are worth buying this new gen coming out.

If you need a TB port, AMD CPUs are automatically no go.
