YMMV Hyper Tough gas or Li-Ion string trimmers $10

$10.00
+35 Deal Score

Picked one of the Li-Ion string trimmer (aka weed eater/weed whacker) models up at $10 in store clearance at 52302...had first seen it on clearance at $80 last week and guess they wanted them gone. Uses two 20 volt lithium batteries (included). MSRP was $114 and seems to be on clearance with at $75 or in other nearby stores...probably will drop further in the coming days where they remain in stock.

The 16" 2-stroke gas model had also dropped to $25 in-store clearance at the same store. Reg price was $74.

I'd definitely grab one of these if I could. You can't go wrong for $10. Unfortunately it's very YMMV hence none around me.

The battery one seems to have bad reviews. Wonder if it's the trimmer or the wm users?
Think some of it could be user problems. The manual is IKEA-like in just a series of pictures and there isn't much explanation on how the "auto feed" works with the cord. Basically have to press a button and pull the trigger. I'm more curious to know how long the batteries will last but don't have a huge yard with a ton of weeds.

I bought the curved shaft model for around $15 late last year. One common problem is starting it. Right out of the box, it started okay once. The second time, I couldn't get it started and I tried till I skinned myself with some metal thing on the pull cord that I didn't notice. I also used overpriced pre-mixed fuel which some said helped.

The trimmer itself is pretty weak and you can stall out the engine on almost anything, but at at least it can trim grass with sufficient patience. I have beefier trimmers, but I smashed one too many windows with those.
I bought the Remington gas version last year that I think is identical to this HT model. Had like a eight-step procedure for a cold start and was a real PITA.

I have hyper tough tools, so in for one at $30 near me... 2 extra batteries at that price? can't really beat it.

I got one last year on clearance. I got sick of my gas powered one getting out of whack and needing adjustment to stay running. They even have the nerve to put tamperproof screws on the carb thanks to all the tree huggers I guess. I'm happy with the electric. It's not as powerful, but it does the job.

When I first moved here the weeds were pretty bad, and there was nothing the 18V ryobi brushless couldn't handle. Since that first round of cuts and weeding the giant weed roots, the normal grass and weeds are a breeze so not sure why ppl are knocking on the lion whackers. I mean if you're going to use it for jobs and its high weeds often, then maybe you'll run out of batteries more often vs refilling gas, but for your own home you can't go wrong with batteries.

I see some around me for $75, if it was $10 i'd definately pick up a few.

I threw out my back trying to get my gas one started last year...figured trying out the battery model is worth a shot at a deep discount.
I went to 2 stores in the Denver area today. 1 store had 10 but the price was $70. I showed them the page & they said they couldn't price match even their own stores. They were nice enough to call a store nearby that had 12. After both of us were on hold for 10 minutes they came back with " we found none so we zeroed our inventory counts" LOL. I found out from another employee while employees couldn't buy items in their dept others could. SO I am sure they found
them for $39 & bought them all.

Had an odd hunch about that with the one I found. I'd originally seen it in the clearance aisle for $80 then it dropped to $40...happened to be passing by, decided to go in and see if any were there. Still had it on the app and saw it was out of stock at $10. Wandered around lawn and garden and found them among other HT stuff randomly in the back corner, but not with the regularly priced items. When I checked out an employee asked me where I found it. He probably had his eye in em too.

since I live in a condo complex I don't need the trimmer, BUT I do have a garage that my truck does not fit in so I have a mini workshop .. their batteries work with their cordless tools which I own and use a lot.. so I scooped one... when I buy a house in 3 or 4 years ... I'll have a trimmer lol
