Solid deal, I'm waiting for the Samsung/Sandisk 1000MB/s level portables to hit this price range, will probably take a while...

I'm not 100% sure but isn't the 2TB dropped in price too?

Does anyone have experience video editing on this? I'm tossed up between the T5 and T7, using a MBP.

T7 is significantly faster than the T5. I would recommend the T7, but it all depends on what kinds of video files you are editing and your editing workflow.

That's great advice. I'm usually editing 1080p projects (rarely 4k), between 30-60min in duration. I've heard that the T7 runs hot (or makes the Macbook run hot), have you ever encountered that? If not, I think I'll just pull the trigger on the T7.

Researching these I have seen a lot of complaints about the T7s and not too many about the T5s, people speculated that the T7s were overclocked T5s and that's why they have so many problems.

I have both the T7 fingerprint and T5. I feel like the T7 slows down when it gets too hot or something...But it's definitely faster, just not a fast consistent speed like the T5.

Mine is just warm, where you can hold it on your hand for a long time, feel kind of nice and cozy during this cold winter month. The case is made of aluminum and feeling warm is a good thing because it is a sign that heat is dissipated away from the memory chips. Inside the case, there is an ePCM (encapsulated phase change materials) pad that helps maintain optimal operating temperature. The ePCM pad absorbs excessive heat from the memory chips and releases the heat when it changes its phase.

They are not overclocked. The T5s have the mSATA SSD inside with the Samsung MGX flash controller. The T7s have the NVMe SSD inside with the Samsung Pablo flash controller.

I run games on my MBP from my T5 500GB. I love it, it works great, no complaints. But is there a bottleneck on the TB3 ports on my 2017 15" MBP that would make using a T7 and it's faster speeds not that big of a deal compared to the 550MB/s (I think?) transfer speed on my T5?

I do find the 500 GB starting to fill up a bit faster than I expected with backups and games but the speed difference for me won't be noticeable or will be bottlenecked by "older" hardware, I'd be fine either getting another T5 500GB or spending a bit more for the T5 1 TB.
