I like this one compared to my Makita compact brushless recip saw (I returned it because of always gets stuck). I returned my 12 fuel hackzall also because of lack of power or underpowered (I used it mainly for pruning and light work). I tried m18 hackzall and still underpowered. Maybe, those only best use for plumbing and electrical work. This thing is a beast! It cuts faster and you can adjust the speed too. Hope this helps.
The only issue is the brushed reciprocating saws eats up batteries like crazy. But depends on your use.
True--dumped all my brushed tools as I work off lifts or on the roof often--nothing is worse than working yourself into a tough position and having to change a battery.
This is one tool that can benefit high voltage battery, especially if there is negligible price difference between 2 items. HD or any other tools shop has 40V version for $220, and if combined with one more 40V tool, Makita is running a promo for one free 40V 4A battery.
It's not even worth $50 for soon to be obsoleted tool.
