If you signup through Drop, using the travel credit card option which forwards to creditsoup.com, you'll get $85 worth of points on Drop... more than enough to cover the fee. The southwest cards are 3 of the 6 cards offered through this promo (the others being Chase Freedom Flex, Citi AA card and and one other platinum card worth $149/yr)

They just had the 80,000 point offer which got you 88,000 points(It was 5k for 1st 50,000, then another 3k for 2nd 30,000) putting you only 12,000 points off of a companion pass good for all of 2021/2022 PLUS an extra 50,000 in points....that was the real deal.

Myself, my account just got an offer for flying 2 RT in February and get it free until June 31st, so this offer would only give me an extra 8 months. I fly 2-4x a week, so I might be able to earn it the regular way this year.
What do you mean by "Plus an extra 50,000 in points"? Was there another promotion after the 80,000 offer?

This offer is only 30,000 points and 10-11 months of CP while that offer was 80,000 points and you'd only need 12,000 more to get CP for an extra 9-12 months(depending when you signed up). So 50,000 more points.

Getting 125,000 points. This offer is horrible and a waste to signup for.

I'm advocating opening 1 personal account that'll show up in a credit report and 1 business account that will not show up on a report. Chase has loosened up their restrictions on "businesses" for sole props. I was actually just approved for the SW Performance Biz card last week with minimal revenue and years in business on the application.

Biz Card - 70k pts after $5k spend
Personal Card - 30K pts after $2k spend

End up with 107k points & companion pass through 2022. Having CP now through Feb of next year means a lot of folks here won't be able to actually take advantage of it before it expires. The spend and the annual fees isn't for everybody, but I would suggest people really consider what they would get out of this deal before springing for it. I would probably actually wait for a better personal card offer, maybe a 50k one.
Congrats on your approval of Chase SW Performance Biz card. How many years in business did you fill in the credit card application?

I applied for the $69 card and it's been two days and nothing yet. Still under review apparently.

That being said, they currently raised the threshold for the Companion Pass to 125k miles, so you would have needed to open more than 2 cards (and pay the resulting annual fees). So I guess this is decent if you want a Companion Pass? Wouldn't have minded having this available a month ago when we had to replace our furnace and AC (yay, $8k on a credit card!), but otherwise it doesn't really seem like that big of a deal. $5k is a lot to drop in only 3 months.
I honestly don't understand.

To accumulate 125,000 miles, I would have to spend a **ton** of cash on travel specifically. More than $5,000, in all likelihood, and I don't travel much typically. So why is this a bad deal?

Sure, more bonus would be great, but if I want a companion pass, this effectively costs me nothing more than the annual fee, because I can put more than 5k on a credit card in a month easy (family of 4).

So what am I missing here?

Previously the spending requirement was WAY lower per card, so you'd end up spending far less than $5k. No clue what it'll be after this promo ends, but usually it's only in the range of $1-2k/card (if I can remember correctly, it's been a couple years). So yes, you'd be out an additional $100 or so in annual fees, but you'd also end up with 125k miles instead of just 30k.
