They must be expecting the 2021 models to arrive soon!
I'm going to hold out to see if the new processor improves much before biting on a 2020 or 2021 model though.

Not an authorized Sony dealer

This fact also screws up a price match scenario with an authorized dealer

You can buy a Nvidia Shield for $150 bucks that will have processing and upscaling beyond this or any TV on the market.

I'm pretty sure the shield doesn't do the type of image processing that's done in the tv.

I have just gotta say how pathetic Sony is that they aren't releasing a single 48 inch oled this year and the one from last year didn't have the newer hdmi version. And lg is nearly as bad as their only 48 inch for this year won't have the brighter technology.

Sony was once an awesome brand. Now many others have caught up to them and some have moved beyond too. I have a Sony tv, wont turn on at times and have to reset with button combos. All the issues started after the warranty period. Granted mine was entry level x690e but still, could not believe a brand touted so much having a problem. More reading on it gave me some insight that it is a fail safe to protect the panel/led. I would say that there is a better chance of LG or Samsung offering a 48 or 49 inch oled/mini led than Sony. For some reason Sony is slow, at least here in the US market.

Wow, never knew that. I have a Roku premiere and was thinking that is the max a streaming device can do.

So, the shield processor upscales and the tv processor enhances it? Or just one of it works?

I know, it's sad. I used to ONLY get sony tvs. In fact I still have a sony radio/boombox that is working great almost 30 years after purchase. But in the past 10 years they have gone downhill. I remember some models in 2011 that were very good and I think since then it's been a disaster.

Not much demand for such a small TV these days. A few people want small to use as a monitor, but by a huge margin the demand is for bigger sizes, not smaller. Smaller also has more challenges and smaller margins.

Say you are watching a program in 720p on the Shield. The Shield will upscale it to 4k so that the TV receives a 4k signal (i.e. no processing is done on the TV, it's all done on the Shield).

I have a Shield Pro on my X950G and it's absolutely incredible. My parents have an A8H at their house and the picture on YoutubeTV through my Shield vs their Xfinity box is night and day.

Sony has the best image processing out there and it doesn't even come close to what the Shield can do with non-4k content.

there is plenty of demand for one good model of that size. the consensus is it's the perfect size for gaming and bigger ones hurt my head for some reason (as do small ones, but not as much).
