My understanding is that Myst Masterpiece Edition is the remastered version of the original still images, with the same point-and-click gameplay. RealMyst isn't so much remastered as completely rebuilt in 3D, which is how free roam is possible.

If you're on a complete nostalgia trip, Myst Masterpiece is probably the best, most faithful version you can play. RealMyst does have a slightly different look to it, but is probably the better bet if you're not a stickler for pretending it's the 90s and prefer a more modern experience (and especially if you're trying to get a younger person into it.) It's HIGHLY subjective, both versions are great, just an FYI so you know what you're getting.
That was fake Myst. This is real Myst.

More seriously I think it's basically the same game, but remastered so you can move freely through the world like an FPS instead of just still pictures / QuickTime.
When it launched I think I tried it on a 386 with 40 Mhz on turbo. So when the original game launched it was kind of revolutionary, even as stills and QuickTime videos

It is and I think they also added some new content for the end. Definitely picking this up.

Interesting. Played a lot of Myst but the stop motion type movement was a real downer... made playing the game take that much longer and more frustrating.

Has anyone tried the VR version of Myst? Is that more worthwhile to put the pennies toward?

Ok so blast from the past alert and quick question. I have never played the original Myst but I am curious about the below because I may very well be in to this game.
Myst > 7th Guest/11th Hour?

I can't speak to this version but I played all of those back in the day and 7th guest / 11th hour were better IMHO.
