For this price, you can buy a real computer.
Oh mighty one, show us an example of a "real computer" you can get with this screen resolution, and build quality.

Chromebooks have there advantages, but they are not for everyone.

I presume this is the initial discounting ahead of the release of the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2. I'm actually very interested in this "older" model given that the replacement abandons the OLED screen in favor of a QLED screen.

At the same time, there are refurb 4-core Intel i5 Chromebooks coming in at under $400 so I'm unsure how much I want an OLED screen. I also know that I deeply regret how Windows handles native 4k screens on laptops (I got a deal years back and still have issues with program interfaces that fail to scale) so I wonder how well ChromeOS handles scaling.

Good luck!

this thing has a 4-hour battery life, garbage speakers, and gets extremely hot (no fan).

it looks nice though...

Where can I get a refurb 4-core Intel i5 Chromebook for around $400? Bonus if its the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 13.5" chromebook. I've had both the Acer and the Samsung Chromebook "1", and between the two I'd prefer the "less premium" Acer unit.

The Samsung Chromebook 1 had a beautiful 4K OLED screen, but the battery life was pretty not-great, and the thing ran very hot due to lack of fans. I also liked the more "square" 3:2 aspect ratio of the Acer 13.5" screen.

Hah! The Spin 713 is brand new so no luck on seeing a discount there. However, the HP 15.6" Chrombook retailed above $400 and every so often appears discounted below $400. This Chromebook has the i5-8250U. Bonus is that the Chromebook also maintains a touchscreen (a minimum feature for me on Chromebooks given the functionality around Android apps).

Good luck!

I'd read about the poor battery life (as a long-term OLED phone user, no surprise there) but not about the heat. Good heads up. I'm actually encouraged to read about it being fanless (having replaced a laptop fan in the past, it isn't something I look forward to repeating) but I can understand what that compromises are associated with that choice (so no laps for this laptop!).

Good luck!
