Too small for a Nakiri, maybe small Veg prep. 7/8 in is better cutting surface suited for a Nakiri. Just some food for thought
Looks like there is a 7" nakiri for $79.95

It's a great deal on an excellent forged knife, there's no denying that. I just want people to be aware that 5 inches is not as practical or comfortable as 7 inches on a Nakiri

Sweet. Love our Wusthoffs but they're getting dull. What do you people use to sharpen them? Any favorites?

I use a whetstone. King 1000/6000 Grit Combination stones are good.

There was a good deal on such a knife the other day but I missed it. This was it:

https://slickdeals.net/f/14786950-mercer-culinary-10-millennia-wavy-edge-bread-knife-13?src=SiteSearch

I have that exact bread knife but would not use it on a watermelon. An 8" chef knife can quickly peel the average watermelon with a few quick slices, and once peeled, chopping up the flesh is easy. No need to split a whole watermelon unless you're going for some fancy presentation.

At this price, I'd go for one of the Japanese ones with harder steels. For example, this one has a vg10 core and is hardened to 60hrc. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000UAUKHI

Find a local shop that does it. $5-6 per knife and you help keep a local business open. Ace hardware if no other option

I'm not sure why you're downvoted, I do agree this can be a good option. Sadly most charge 10-15 per knife near me

They likely use a belt sander at that price, grind away too much metal, and will not preserve the 10 degree edge.

The king whetstone 1000/6000 is a good option but have some junk knives to practice on first, guy named burrfection on YouTube has some good videos. I'll warn you though, it's a hobby in itself. The pull through sharpeners remove material on every pull, easier option but I think hard on knives. Oh, and I really don't give a flying leap about up votes td or tu until I start getting paid for them by SD. I don't even post deals anymore because they make money off my hard work

This does not look like it's Michael Meyers approved.

Lmao is this a double bevel German style blade in a Nakiri shape?

Honestly sounds pretty nice.

I have big hands and I typically go for this knife over my 8" chef's knife for anything smaller than a large onion. This type of knife is good for people who prefer push cuts vs rock chopping

Yep... I have the 7" version, it's just about right, wouldn't want it any smaller, wouldn't work as well for many items I cut.

10 degrees means competently sharpening with a stone or having a pro do it. If you care about blade maintenance, that is.
