If you're new to Starbucks blends, the general rule is that what they call light roast is really a medium. What they call medium is really very dark. And what they call dark is burnt quite a bit.
This is some ridiculous snob wankery.
I've had plenty of great, fresh roasted coffee that I ground at home and I've had pre ground coffee from a bag at the supermarket, and like most people that aren't involved in feeling a false sense of superiority for their sense of taste, I enjoyed both!

I don't do ground coffee, I eat the beans directly. Even more fresh!

Hi thanks for sharing your expertise, i just got a coffee grinder to try this for the first time and ordered Lavazzo beans from the other deal. So you are saying even thkse whole beans are not good anymore because it will be way past their roast dates even when vacuum sealed? I am after a good taste, what's your recommendation, how or where can I get a coffee beans that are roasted daily and are good coffee (i means ralphs, trader Joe's Gson, wholefoods, or other places) or you recommend getting a roaster ( i don't know if i want to spend that much yet). I just want to learn, and thank you in advance. I upped my tea game with Saffron/Cardamom Persian Black Tea and I can't go back to tea bags, it's butchering the tea, so I sense you and a few others here know how to make yoir coffee really well. 🙏
Sorry to be unclear. Whole bean would be fine to last a while and not ground up. Once you grind it, the shelf life is shorter. Especially getting a 20oz. bag of ground coffee it will get a noticeably different flavor from ounce 1 to ounce 20. I've had whole bean in an open bag for a month and still fine for the most part.

I always think a coffee maker goes too fast when brewing and I always pour the made coffee back over the grinds to get a little more flavor.

The flavor of the coffee comes from the oils that is inside the shells of the bean. Once it's been grounded, the only reason it stays fresh is the foil. But once the package is opened the aroma leaves. So it is best to consume the entire package at once or within 2-3 days. Or simply ground your own beans.

You'll never get cafe quality coffee at home from packaged ground coffee.

Even whole beans after a few months the richness of the aroma loses over time.

I agree with everyone who has stated Starbucks is really not the best. I use to be a big Starbucks person... they have thousands of dollars of mine... I am just not a fan of Starbucks anymore.

And of course... WHOLE BEAN is the way to go and get your self a coffee burr.

To get freshly roasted coffee beans you can't buy those from a supermarket. You would have to go directly to a local roaster or possibly online. But only if they will tell you how recently the coffee beans were roasted. Many coffee roasters will try to hide that exact information, including Starbucks.

Yes I agree. I was assuming a bag of coffee would last about a 4-6 weeks, instead of 3-4 months.

Not sure why the thumbs down for stating facts. It's not a crime to be picky about coffee or anything you consume. Pre-ground is fine for cold brew and those who just need caffeine. If you care about the taste of coffee, definitely get it locally roasted and grind it at home. If you eat gas station hot dogs and nachos, I'm sure prepackaged, ground coffee is fine. Whatever floats your boat...

You're right. I like starbucks & thank Heaven for 7/11 all beef 1/4lb hot dogs!

I actually changed from ground whole-bean only to use the ground powder only, and sometimes instant coffee or k-cup.

It is such a harsh reality in life that there are too many things to do (especially in the morning), be picky will end up with no time/no-commitment for preparation to get my coffee. I drink coffee all day long, the extra effort add up significantly. So I give up some to get some.

Not all people who do not use whole bean to grind is because they cannot distinguish the difference.

As someone who grinds his own coffee almost every morning, I can confirm there is some dumb snobbery in this thread.

Yes, in a fancy espresso machine or aeropress or whatever, you can get more flavor grinding your own beans. But 99% of people can't taste the improvement that "freshly ground" makes in a standard drip coffee maker.

And calling it "rancid" is just ridiculous. "Rancid" means foul spoiled meat to most people. Using it to describe slightly stale coffee is just stupid.

Tl:dr This will taste better than Folgers in your drip coffee maker even though it is ground. It's fine for the price.

If you can't taste the difference between whole bean and ground coffee, then you also can't taste the difference betwee Starbucks and Folgers or Maxwell House. Go with Folgers and save the $$$.

Please try to imagine that there are people for whom coffee is only a small part of their day, and not a hobby obsession. Literally no one interested in this deal is also interested in your wonk opinion.
I'm interested in the deal and also his opinion. In fact, his post was more interesting than the deal. he wasn't obnoxious or snobbish - I don't know why you're flaming him.

Stop spreading your disease of normalized bad taste. Go make a youtube video teaching how to make authentic Asian food using a Teflon wok and call yourself a chef. I bet you measure flour with a measuring cup, and put knives in the sink and leave wooden spoons soaking under dirty water, and think cast iron pans are impossible to use. I hope your phone only charges at certain angles.
