If you're new to Starbucks blends, the general rule is that what they call light roast is really a medium. What they call medium is really very dark. And what they call dark is burnt quite a bit.

This is some ridiculous snob wankery.

I've had plenty of great, fresh roasted coffee that I ground at home and I've had pre ground coffee from a bag at the supermarket, and like most people that aren't involved in feeling a false sense of superiority for their sense of taste, I enjoyed both!

Sorry to be unclear. Whole bean would be fine to last a while and not ground up. Once you grind it, the shelf life is shorter. Especially getting a 20oz. bag of ground coffee it will get a noticeably different flavor from ounce 1 to ounce 20. I've had whole bean in an open bag for a month and still fine for the most part.

I always think a coffee maker goes too fast when brewing and I always pour the made coffee back over the grinds to get a little more flavor.

The flavor of the coffee comes from the oils that is inside the shells of the bean. Once it's been grounded, the only reason it stays fresh is the foil. But once the package is opened the aroma leaves. So it is best to consume the entire package at once or within 2-3 days. Or simply ground your own beans.

You'll never get cafe quality coffee at home from packaged ground coffee.

I agree with everyone who has stated Starbucks is really not the best. I use to be a big Starbucks person... they have thousands of dollars of mine... I am just not a fan of Starbucks anymore.

And of course... WHOLE BEAN is the way to go and get your self a coffee burr.

Yes I agree. I was assuming a bag of coffee would last about a 4-6 weeks, instead of 3-4 months.

I actually changed from ground whole-bean only to use the ground powder only, and sometimes instant coffee or k-cup.

It is such a harsh reality in life that there are too many things to do (especially in the morning), be picky will end up with no time/no-commitment for preparation to get my coffee. I drink coffee all day long, the extra effort add up significantly. So I give up some to get some.

Not all people who do not use whole bean to grind is because they cannot distinguish the difference.

As someone who grinds his own coffee almost every morning, I can confirm there is some dumb snobbery in this thread.

Yes, in a fancy espresso machine or aeropress or whatever, you can get more flavor grinding your own beans. But 99% of people can't taste the improvement that "freshly ground" makes in a standard drip coffee maker.

And calling it "rancid" is just ridiculous. "Rancid" means foul spoiled meat to most people. Using it to describe slightly stale coffee is just stupid.

Tl:dr This will taste better than Folgers in your drip coffee maker even though it is ground. It's fine for the price.
