Don't do it guys. Even Free this game is not worth playing. Better play Shenmue 1 and 2 then wait until next one coming. Shenmue 3 is really bad.

This thread is full of contrarians. This game is more detailed than Cyberpunk 2077. I'll buy 10 of 'em just to piss you edgelords off.

Whatever that means. I selected the only store where it's available at all.

Yeah it was weird. I couldn't purchase at my selected store at first. Tried shipping then it said the Steelbook wasn't available for shipping for some reason. Added another game in my cart then shipping worked for some reason. Lol

This came in handy when needing one more game to sell a box of stuff to Decluttr. It was not worth your time. I got this for $8 at BB several months back.

I don't know why this game gets on the frontpage so frequently. It keeps going on sale because it's a bad game, people! I bought it for $8, and I can confidently say that I would like my 20 hours back.

I implore everyone considering this to at least consult the MetaCritic reviews first:

It's not "charming", it's not "retro", it's not "for the fans"; it's just a lazy game, cobbled together by guys who spent 20 years making a game that should've come out in 2003, and learned nothing along the way.

You know what, as tempting as it is. I'll wait for the PS+ free edition 😂. Reviews ain't great so I'm not going to waste my money, even with the steelbook

After 12 long years, to finally get a Shenmue 3 announcement felt like a dream come true. The first two games are truly unparalleled in their scope and atmosphere, the cinematography made the rather simple and slow story have a big impact - and the mystery of what lay ahead seemed HUGE after Shenmue 2's fantastic ending (Disc 4).

Even after 4 long years in development, I wasn't expecting the greatest looking or playing game, but thought the story would be there - ended up being the total opposite. The graphics were surprisingly good, and the game was fun enough (battle system was on the weaker side for sure) but the story was just...garbage. So, so disappointing. Literally nothing happened.

Still, I hope they get a chance at Shenmue 4...the series is still a big part of me, and I want to see more.

And no, ending the story in this game would not have been possible - Suzuki said 4 or 5 games (not the 7 or 8 someone has mentioned here) would be necessary, and I respect that - but they really blew it with the piss poor writing in 3.

Still, for $10 - get this game, and get Shenmue 1 & 2 HD and play the original masterpieces.

I do have faith they can fix things in 4, but don't have faith they'll get the chance to.

Sort of off-topic but not really. I have two Dreamcasts - one still new in a box and I want to play Shenmue 1 and 2. Are they obnoxiously expensive to purchase or should I just buy a version for a different platform?

Damn, a lot of people dunking on this game here. Shenmue I and especially II were far better, but I didn't think this was abysmal or anything. It was Suzuki's intentional direction to release the next game in almost the same state as it would have been released 15+ years prior.

I'm with you, I wish he would have consolidated and finished things or at least packed it with more of the overall story. But for what it is, it's not bad, just not amazing.

Also, on topic: I have the steel case and it's beautiful. Worth $10 to fans of the series.
