ie If you have an x-Way setup (more than one switch controls a light), or a situation where power is at the fixture... I've seen it used as a traveler and not marked appropriately (black mark/tape/etc.) many times.
If you only see one set of wires coming in behind the switch and one black wire is connected to one side and one white wire to the other, then the white is being used as a hot.
I'm not an electrician nor do I play one on tv.

Seriously people - if you aren't SURE what you're doing, please, PLEASE do not take advice from strangers on the internet - no matter how well-intended it may be. Live to Slickdeal another day.
I'm not going to defend my comment against the downvotes EXCEPT to say, hopefully to save a life - please google or duckduckgo information regarding neutral wires. circuits and voltage. You will find the above to be DRASTICALLY wrong. Again - recommend you do NOT take the advice of internet electricians. Your choice...

Just older homes lack ground to recepticles. My parents older house only had two prong plug recepticles and lacked the ground terminal.

Looking at the internal photos, Photo 6 shows a blurry but recognizable Realtek crab logo on the main IC. So no Tasmota. Here's a crop:

Gonna cancel my orders and go with something else that I know has support for Tasmota (which, in a 4-pack, comes out to basically the same price as these anyway).

"knob and tube" is a 2 wiring system. A neutral, and a hot. No ground. go figure!
That's why they have outlets without the 3rd hole.. called a 2 prong outlet.
open your panel and look where the white and ground wires go
that's what i laugh about
My house was built in the (18)40s and it too is a conglomeration of construction techniques.
Refoss Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085G6J...b_ap_
In fact, Refoss is a brand of Meross and it uses Mediatek IoT chipset (same as what Echo Dot gen3 uses).
The reviews are great with a 4.7 rating.
I already use this for a year now and it is great. You've scenes, schedules, and is also Alexa/Google Home compatible.
NB: Neutral wire required!
