10850k is tempting for that price but Alder Lake 10nm with DDR5 will be announced later this year. AMD will most likely respond with newer CPU and DDR5.
I got MC close to me. Would MC deal be better if you need a combo?
Also could anyone recommend which mobo to go with in MC?
Last time a checked. Mobos at Mc was pretty scarce for the z490 unless they got some z590 in. With that being said. It would cost the same going this route or Mc since the boards at Mc probably aren't on sale. You usually save extra $20 when you go with a cpu + mobo combo from mc

If you're always waiting for the next announced thing, you'll never upgrade.

I imagine DDR5 prices will be stupid on release given how availability is so limited on new products. I'm not going to play that game, lol.
I disagree. For one you are forgetting that the 10900 includes a heat sink. Also, this:
"If you are willing to spend 30 seconds in the BIOS, you can turn the i9-10900 into a price/performance monster. With the power limit removed, the CPU will run at its full potential, basically rivaling the Core i9-10900K at much lower pricing, and a heatsink is included, too."
The included stock cooler on the 10900 is inconsequential as nobody in their right mind would use that 65W cooler to run that beast of a CPU. Once it turbos (set by default) that stock cooler is toast and you'll be throttled. The 10850k also has a higher all core turbo at stock than the 10900. The 10850K is basically a lower binned 10900K and price means nothing considering there's a $2 difference.
Bought! Was waiting for it to drop to my target price and it finally has. Any recommendations for a motherboard to pair with this? My budget is around $200. I normally go with Asus but I heard that the Asus z490 chipset is one of the few motherboards that can't be updated through BIOS to PCIe 4.0. Fact or fiction? I'll use this mostly for gaming.

Amazon has insane used priced on some Z490. I seen Z490 Tomahawk for $128 last week it didn't last long.
