Is it true these things are next to impossible to open up and do things like replace the battery or the SSD?
The Surface Laptop 3 was a significant improvement in reparability from the previous generation which could not be opened... the previous gen scored 0/10 reparability from iFixit, but this gen scored 5/10 reparability. There are screws under the feet at the bottom that allow the keyboard to be removed magnetically, and you can replace the SSD. No battery replacement though.

I bought this exact model, 256gb ssd back in June of 2020. I love it! Ultra light, touch screen, great display, and amazing keyboard. Also, the keyboard cover is a fabric material instead of metal which is nice on the palms. Also supports type C charging. I bought a small 90w wall charger that I carry with it as well as a 95w power bank which charges it from 0 to full fairly quickly. Overall, extremely happy with my purchase and have used it pretty much everyday for school and work. I got mine for $850 open box from bestbuys ebay account. at this price, it's a no brainer.
The Surface Pro is a different form factor though right? Looking for something I can use while sitting on couch, etc. Surface Pro wouldn't work in those scenarios....

Pro is a tablet with a tent stand - awful on the lap with that thin metal stand digging into the lap. You'd have to use the kb cover flipped under to act as a base.

SD if it had 512 GB SSD, not 128 GB.

Sp7 is basically the same cpu, but lighter tablet mode. $600+ on sale.
...
2-in-1 notebooks from dell, hp, lenovo, etc are all faster 11th gen tiger lake models, optimal 4k oled, more ports, etc.
Compare and think - often, alternatives give you more of what you need like usb ports.
If you need egpu, not the sl.
