All tape is not created equal. After 33, I never used generic tape again.
Same thing happened to me when I got my hands on Super 88 tape.

I never knew there were so many tape snobs in the world. I've never spent more than $.50 on a roll of electrical tape, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

With good tape, I keep it in the little round container it comes in. This keeps dust from sticking to the edges. Dust on the edges can affect the seal and lead to peeling. I try to keep all tapes in clean containers. Especially masking tapes.

As long as it isn't heated up it should last forever

Yup. I'd much rather use that stuff than others. If this electrical cord were ever in two pieces, I'd probably recommend heatshrink instead. But if it's all one piece and you can't slide heatshrink on, I get it. If it's going to be indoors and not really moved it's whole life, then dang near any tape would work fine.

If this is for an extension cord, I'd actually probably recommend just replacing the cord. They live rough lives and have to carry power over long distance. Voltage drop will be noticed even more over a 50+ft run.
Is for a floor lamp's electrical cord.
