Best Buy again slightly drops the price of the WD Easystore 5TB portable hard drive from $104.99 down to $99.99. They seem to do this every week or two now. No telling how long this slightly lower price will be.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-e...Id=6406512

Still a meh deal on a per TB price ($20 per TB) due to being a portable drive and not the larger dimensioned 3.5 inch desktop external drives that many buy and shuck.

And as previously mentioned in past discussions on this drive it is not shuckable as the USB port is part of the drive.

As a price comparison. Amazon has the WD 5TB Elements portable hard drive at $99.99 right now.

An alternative 5tB drive at a slightly lower price point, Costco will have the Seagate 5TB portable drive on sale for $89.99 starting 3/10. But it's Seagate which some here despise.

This is a great deal. Just ran outta space on my 3tb. I use it for 4K video storage exclusively 😏

Technically you can shuck it, but the 2.5" drive inside is likely has chip set soldered to the HDD.

LOL someone always asks the question. Tried to answer this question in the initial post to start this deal to forestall the usual posts asking about shucking these portable drives. On many of the WD portable external 2.5 inch style drives the USB to SATA adapter is apparently integrated into the drive itself.

These portable WD Easystore drives are not like their larger 3.5 inch sized WD Easystore cousins. Supposedly the Seagate portable drives can be shucked but then you have to deal with it being a Seagate drive.

Edit to add: Example image [wd.com] of the WD portable drive shucked showing the USB port integrated into the drive hardware. And another example, WD Black P10 portable drive, from an Amazon review [amazon.com] which also has the USB port integrated into the drive itself.

Keep in mind this deal is for the smaller portable Easystore drive not the larger external USB desktop drive versions like the My Book.

See some earlier comments where at least one person gave their opinion on which of the drives to buy.

Compare the specifications and warranties. The WD My Passport portable drive has hardware encryption and comes in a few different colors. Both the My Passport and WD Elements portable drive have 3 year warranties, Easystore portable has 2 year warranty. The Easystore portable is typically only sold (new) through Best Buy.

Best Buy has this drive priced at $104.99 for the past few months. They drop it down to $99.99 for a day (or a full week) once or twice a month recently but then push the price back to $104.99.

In the past (use the slickdeals search feature) this drive has occasionally been priced at $89.99.

This isn't a great deal; it's luke warm at best.

I got the WD 5tb black drive from Amazon last year for $92, the passport drives with 3-yr warranty have also been in the $90s, while the BB easystore is only a 2-year warranty and more expensive. No thanks.

Over paying for drives is only warranted if you absolutely need it today. If you can wait, I'd say wait.
Agreed. This was $90 on BF a year & a half ago. I didn't bite & I've been watching the price ever since. It has, in that time, been $99 on numerous occasions. I'm not desperate for it so I'm holding out for the extra ten bucks. Otherwise, not a new development.
