I took advantage of the low fares a few weeks ago when round trip was close to $150. Now I really regret it. You have to get a negative test result within the 72 hours before departure from a trusted partner. The cheapest way to get tested is through Walgreens. It is free and approved by the state of Hawaii. What makes me uneasy is that test results can take 3-5 days. If you want to be safe, there are faster options but insurance does not pay for those tests. The approved rapid tests are about $300 each (150 for test and 150 for office visit). My flight is on a Monday morning which means I need to get tested on Friday at the earliest. I'm afraid some labs will probably not process on Sundays. It may look like a good deal for the flights but to me this is a pain in the ass.
Walgreens also has the ID Now test, which gives results within 24 hours (though in reality it usually only takes 2 hours). Cost is $120. It is on the approved list of tests for Hawaii.

Some airports also have rapid NAAT testing that is approved by Hawaii, with results within 30 minutes. Cost for that test is $200.

Isn't the ID now test free like the others Walgreens offers? So long as you say you have a headache, body aches, runny nose.. you know, the symptoms of every day life Smilie

It $ucks. My wife and I were planning to go hawaii for our 10th anniversary, that is around end of May. This would be an excellent deal. Is there even some talks, rumor about letting vaccinated folks fly without any drama? Or make the test requirement little painless??

Same price from San Jose using the current Southwest promo for the SF Bay Area folks.
And Southwest has significantly better customer service.

This happened to me with Walgreens. Had a vacation planned, got tested three days prior. It took two days just for the tests to arrived at the lab and then another two days to process. If you do the math, that equals cancelled vacation. There are no rapid testing centers on Hawaii's approved by me, but this also was months ago.
They have a rapid test and I had my results in 2 hours from Walgreens. It was very easy and free.

I feel you! I have a flight on a Monday coming up as well and I hope I get the test results before heading out!
Let us know how it goes. I have been doing a bunch of research. My backup plan right now is to get tested at LAX 3 days before departure. I believe it is around terminal 6 and is done by Clarity Lab Solutions. Cost is $125 and you get your results in 3-5 hours. That lab and test is approved by Hawaii. Also, if you go the Walgreens route, make sure to ask which lab they use. Some in my area (southern Orange County), use Aegis and others use Lab Corp. Both labs are approved by Hawaii since you are going through Walgreens. Try to pick the ones that use Lab Corp. They test it locally. for Walgreens that uses Aegis, it goes to their lab in Tennessee. Although it gets shipped overnight, who knows what will happen when weather may affect the turn time. I did a test run last weekend. Tested on Saturday, and got results emailed on Monday. I tested at the Walgreens in Lake Forest. They use Aegis as their lab. Turn time was 2 days.

Gone twice now. First was on United out of SMF in November and got back a week ago from OAK on Southwest. Both airports offer $20 tests that provide results within the needed 72 hrs but we have Kaiser and theirs are free. It is a little nerve wracking for sure that you have to upload results before you leave but both times we did the tests near the end of the week, one was a Thurs and the other a Fri, and the results were back in about 36 hrs. With cases going down and more getting vaccinated I would be even less stressed now of receiving test results within the needed time frame. This is slickdeals, take advantage of these prices while you can.

Southwest has had similar or better pricing over the last few weeks from the Bay Area. And Covid testing can be found around here for $20 compliant with Hawaii's requirements and guaranteed in 48 hours.

Anybody who has gone to Maui during COVID have any experience? Any issues with your flight? Was it crowded? Where did you go, and what is there to do in Maui? Were most things closed?

I've been extremely taxed and stressed and have been at home since the pandemic and considering a yolo trip.
