This is a lens not a camera. Sony does make good cameras for low light. Generally speaking, the images from a low megapixel camera (like an a7S III) will have less noise than images from a high megapixel camera (like an a7R III).

As far as lenses go, one with a large aperture can let in more light allowing you can keep your ISO lower. This lens can go to f/1.8 so it will perform well. 35mm may not be wide enough for astrophotography though and it may be difficult to focus on stars at f/1.8.

How is this compare to Sony E 35 mm F1.8 OSS? I just got my Sony a6400 and looking for another lens to compliment the Sony E 18-135mm while travel.

Reviews are good. It's sharper than sony at 1.8. I bought the tokina 35mm 2.8 because this wasn't out yet. A lot of folks are hesitant to get this over the sony though because the quality is hit or miss. People sometimes have to exchange a few times before they will get a good lens.

I've been happy with the Sigma 30/1.4 on my 6400. I've heard good things about the Rokinon also and if you plan to go FF later the Rokinon might make more sense.

Just got the Samyang flavor for $20 more a few days ago. 😪

It is nice - sharp wide open, fairly light and compact. No issues.

It's a lil sharper than the sony 35mm 1.8 but the sony has better colors plus this lens has some focus breathing where the sony does not. I got the sony for $548 through B&H edu. I would wait for that.

I think it's the large amount of third party glass that's available for Sony

Bought this lens for the same price at the end of January from Adorama. Love how sharp and compact/lightweight it is. Works really well with A7iii eye autofocus.

Is this good for videos? I have a 85mm f1.8 from sony for close up shots. I am wondering if I should get 35mm rokinon rather than sony for videos.

For anyone that owns a Samyang lens, do you find it necessary to purchase the dock for updating the firmware?
