Is Zig Zag cleaning path the new way to say "no mapping"?

I've had this for about 18 months, but paid $189. It isn't as fancy as the more expensive models, and usually can't find its way back to the base station. That said, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. We run it once a week and picks up a ton of dust, dirt, and pet hair on tile floors. The mop function is ok to damp mop, bit won't clean anything. I clean the bin and filters out with compressed air after each use, and the unit itself every couple of months. If you expect the performance and features of a $500+ unit, then pass on this. If you want your hard floors vacuumed, this can't be beat!

I have this, it is my third robot vacuum over the past 10 plus years and i agree it isn't fancy but it works and doesn't require a lot of up keep like the roomba and neato I had before. Works great on hardwoods and okay on carpet. Mop feature is okay

I used to have one of these "smart" robovacs without mapping or scanning, but was frustrated at how random and chaotic the cleaning pattern was. It would just go around aimlessly, typically cleaning the same spot over and over, and not clean other spots at all - Basically useless and more "dumb" than "smart". I upgraded to ecovacs Deebot during a black friday sale for a steal (was $200 for normally $5-600 robovac) that had smart mapping with digital boundaries in the app and lidar scanning.

After having one with full fledged mapping and scanning, I'll never go back to one without it. I'm not sure how the zig-zag feature of this works, potentially it would be an improvement instead of just randomly bumping around as it's more organized and probably get better cleaning coverage, but I doubt it will ever get remotely as good as a truly smart robovac with mapping.

It's worth the extra money for the digital boundaries you can set around obstacles alone, as I hated having to pickup and clean the house just for the robovac to operate. Now I can just sit on the couch, start the robovac and if needed to set digital boundaries around stuff I don't want to clean up on the fly. Plus, with the lidar scanning it doesn't bump into walls or furniture nearly as often and leave scuff marks everywhere. I get full coverage and it honestly does a better job cleaning than I would with a hand-held or stand-up vacuum since it literally gets everywhere and under all furniture I wouldn't normally be able to fit under or too lazy to move to clean under.

I have tile or wood floors in the entire house, with only a few area rugs. I'll run it when it looks fairly clean and I'll be shocked with how much dust and debris it picks up. Sometimes I'll run it twice and it will still pickup a sizeable amount.

This is kinda what I'm holding out for. a sub-$200 robo-vac with mapping. The Wyze vacuum is $250, so I might just break down and buy that. Seems like a good price, but honestly, they have a TON of really cool shit for a good price. Not like "impossibly" good prices, but definitely suspiciously good price. lol

I've had mine about 3 months and I completely agree. If you want a simple unit that does a pretty good job and don't want to spend above $500 I'd recommend this one. We have a dog and use it 3-4 times a week. Hardwood floors throughout our house so I can't comment how it does on carpet.
