This is like a plastic tarp with no breathing/cross-breeze.
It says it's breathable, but it felt like a sauna suit as soon as I put it on.
I'm one sweaty mother farker and I find it pretty breathable. I was worried about the lack of pitt zips but it's just as cool as the eddie bauer one I do have with pitt zips.
a lot of that depends on the climate you live in. Here in Florida where is very humid jackets like this as well as Gore-Tex lined jackets have to work a lot harder than they do in dryer climates. Membrain is a fine coating and it does its job well while still keeping the jacket in a decent price point. I have owned several jackets with this coating as well as the equivalent from North face and mountain hardwear, and outdoor research. The largest misconception with the terminology on jackets like this is that breathability is equitable to air permeability. Breathability is just the jackets ability to vent your hot humid air outside through the jacket itself, not by means of mesh or pit zips or pocket vents. If the air outside the jacket is as hot and humid as it is here in Florida the jacket has to work a lot harder and a lot of times builds up condensation inside and you can end up sweating it out. Much the same can be said even with Gore-Tex in our climate. This is a great jacket and a fantastic price.

Huh, seems like a good deal and they actually have my size. Never owned anything Marmot though. I have always stuck to Northface, 5.11 and REI brands for outdoor clothes like this. Looks like the reviews were good at REI though (LINK[rei.com]).
I like mine. Better in the rain than in the cold. The cold seems to cut right through it (I suppose it IS breathable) unless I wear a sweater or long sleeves underneath. With proper layering it's fine. No issues in the Houston rain, though. I'm 6'4, about 220-230lbs and an XL is fine, maybe a little big.

Does this jacket have a fill in it, or is it plastic type layers with little insulation?

For what it's worth I love mine. Got it for a similar price last year.
