Still unsure if I want to buy the 4k firestick for $30, this for $22.5 or none at all.

Currently have 2016 2nd Gen firestick and use bluetooth headphones often with it. Tried Roku before idk which model, many years ago and it was terrible experience.
I just replaced my Firestick with this, so happy I did, Firestick was way slower, more likely to disconnect and did not have the power this one does in my opinion. I have this one in my bedroom and the big Roku in my living room, definitely prefer Rokus interface.

I am going with firestick as I see more support on it for Kodi.
That will work. Check out Troypoint.com as there's many options easier than Kodi depending on what you're after. PM me if you need more details.

Yes, but it needs to be connected to xfinity wifi for the xfinity app to function.
Not necessarily. I've set up the Fire stick w/ Xfinity beta app at my GFs place which uses AT&T (the only internet option available @ 25mbps max, sadly). The DVR and most of the TVgo live channels work. It's just slow to start and horrible to navigate around, but live streaming is clear once it starts

Roku is the best for spouses who are tech-dolts, grandparents, etc. It doesn't get easier than Roku.

Sure, Fire stick 4K is slick and you can side load stuff... .trying to walk my elderly mother through that hurt my head.

And for people who want Kodi... ask yourself what you want about it. If you're just talking about streaming from a local computer, you can do that with Roku Media Player. I do that with stuff I don't want in my Plex library <wink> . But if you're after the pirate channels and such then yeah move along.

I wish this came with the better remote with TV controls but then it would be more than $20-30. Being able to program a Harmony for IR control is a plus.

I had never seen the generic replacement remote on Amz before, for $11 that is tempting. I would like to get my mother down to 2 remotes if possible.

Looking for the simplest device for my 75 year old Mom to use so she can start streaming, yes she still gets physical discs from Netflix! Is Roku the way to go? I've heard their interface is pretty simple? I don't have any experience with firestick, roku, etc. Thanks!

I realize this is only $22, but this is a pretty old model.

Main things to consider:
- Only 802.11g/n support, no 802.11ac or wi-fi 6, so streaming 4k might occasionally have issues
- no AV1 hardware decode support for future compatibility. (not a big deal, but the newest ultra model does have this)

I'd definitely pick Roku over Fire TV for parents/grandparents.

I don't know about Firestick. I was referring to Roku.

Please don't shame me for this question but will this work properly with a 1080p tv?

Is getting this overkill for a 1080p only TV? Wonder if a 4k unit is faster than non-4k.

For some reason Samsung isn't supporting the MLB.tv app (I have an 8 series from late 2016) - gives me an excuse to buy a Roku
