Spectrum Internet Ultra 400Mbps $29.99/month for 2 years YMMV

Received a card from Spectrum in the mail. It offers $29.99/month for its Internet Ultra (400Mbps) for 2 years with no contracts, including free modem. Valid through 3/17/2021. Call 1-844-793-7442 or go to Spectrum.com. I entered my address online and saw the offer price.

Could be a local offer. I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Just to clarify...

Spectrum 200 Mbps (100 Mbps in some remote areas) standard high speed internet is a NATIONWIDE regular rate of $74.99 and includes modem. Wireless router rental is $5/ month so buy your own and save money. Regular new customer promotion on this standard plan is $49.99/ month for 12 months. 2nd year rate goes up $10 and 3rd year to regular price. Upgrade to 400 Mbps for $20 more per month or 1 Gig for $60 more per month.

Often the 400 Mbps is available in competitive properties or areas at $49.99/ month for 24 months. Same plan can sometimes more rarely be found for $29.99/ month as OP stated YMMV. More areas for these promos will be added very soon as this is a current project happening now.

Current active Spectrum subscribers are not eligible for new customer rates but you may ask for a retention offer instead. Often these retention offers are not as good as initial new customer offers. Some customers cancel and restart an account or use another provider temporarily to be eligible for new customer rate again. Many customers play the game and call their internet provider every 12 months to get a new lower promotional rate.

Spectrum/Charter/formerly TWC has had a fiber optic backbone for 20+ years. Usually plant lines are connected to property coaxial cable lines put in by the builder and NOT Spectrum. Coax cable lines can theoretically support speeds up to 11 Gigs with recent DOCSIS 3.1 upgrades but with higher latency. Spectrum does have fiber to the unit in some locations (definitely a lot in Business Class) but keep in mind even with a fiber to the unit connection, you are often bottlenecking your speed benefits when connecting to a wireless router and using the WiFi. Really these higher speeds are just marketing ploys to get more money from residential addresses that don't have the correct or even necessary internal networking setup. Those higher speeds and fiber to the house connections are best really for business applications. 100 or 200 Mbps is more than sufficient for even many above average residential internet users.

They actually withdrew their application from FCC to put data caps for usage.
Merger agreement expires in 2023 so they can add data caps back at that time. Which they will its free money Xfinity and Cox does it already.

I had this offer in 2019 after I moved to att fiber. So I went back to sprectrum. The service has been solid for me, have TWC (now sprectrum) since 2012. Only couple brief outages. No complaints. Fortunately, I have 3 options right now including 2gig from Google fiber for $100/month but for $30/month. I would keep it as long as it is cheapest out of all three.

I'd jump on it if it were in my area, 49.99 here, I've been use my nighthawk 30 gb monthly limit to run my house router the past year, it works ok - but pricey and AT&T could be the worst company on the planet.

I had time warner they kept my bill around $150/mth for cable & internet, for 10 years they kept me happy.. Spectrum took over and within 6 mths I was loosing channels, price went up, package changes, blah blah blah. I dumped them and now when I drive by one of those spectrum trucks with the guy on a ladder I honk and stick out my tongue,, makes me feel good. laugh out loudlaugh out loud

Here is my story with Spectrum. A Spectrum sales guy left a business card so I called him to have Spectrum service set up. He told me there was a promotion in my area due to a new competitor and I would get $34.99 for 2 year. After he set up the service I got a confirmation email said $34.99. Then 2 day later I got another email with same title same content except that the price changed to $84.99. Called sales guy and he said he will get back to me but it never happened. Called Spectrum CS numerous time. The first lady was nice and tried to help but failed so she put a note and escalated my case and said someone will get back to me in 3-5 business days. Then nothing happened. I called again a guy said be patient and keep waiting. He also told me my promotion runs for 4 year not 2 year. Called 3rd time, this time an old lady looked at my account and told me what's wrong. She said every new customer should have a Champaign - Spectrum terminology for coupon. My new account has this Champaign missing for "some reason" so it went to full price. She said the promotion runs at 2 year tier. The price increases $20 every 2 year until it reaches full price. She again escalated my case and told me to check the online account several days later. I kept checking my online account several times each day and it finally changed to promotion price. BUT, the first month statement still shows $89.99. Have to call them again. One guy said wait and it will change. After a week no change called again. The lady talked to her manager and was told I have to paid full price for the first month because statement was out they can't change it. Well this is not my fault. Called again and threaten to cancel the service with their free 30 days of cancellation policy and they changed first month price immediately. If you don't have any issues with their promotion then you are good. If you do then brace yourself.

I hate spectrum, but at least their speeds match what they advertise. I was always in the 450s-500s with the 400 service with a mediocre 1750 router
AT&T gigabyte gets 650 on fiber for me

Spectrum is the worst. We used to have Time Warner and it was bought out by Spectrum. They told us we could keep our Time Warner Package Prices and that we were considered separate companies. So now they made our equipment obsolete and told us we need to switch to Spectrum but we are not eligible for Spectrum Packages even though we are separate companies. We supposedly get 200mbps and only get 25-50mbps.

My rate has gone up 4 times in a year. The lack of competition is screwing us.

Started at 29.99 years ago - now at 74.99 😞

For us it's Spectrum or AT&T. AT&T only offers 100Mbps service, and my family that has them have had tons of issues over the last two years. I think I've had to call Spectrum once for an outage over that same period, and the outage was resolved by the next morning. I really can't complain. At least they aren't Shitcast...
I don't understand people beef with Xfinity. They work great and without issues. Sure with any company you'll have issues, if your their the only company in your area for Internet. But its either Xfinity or AT&T 100Mb/s for us. We choose Xfinity. $70 for 1gig with $25 for modem/unlimited data. I'm happy with the service, and don't plan to switch until AT&T does offer fiber here.
