Spectrum Internet Ultra 400Mbps $29.99/month for 2 years YMMV

Received a card from Spectrum in the mail. It offers $29.99/month for its Internet Ultra (400Mbps) for 2 years with no contracts, including free modem. Valid through 3/17/2021. Call 1-844-793-7442 or go to Spectrum.com. I entered my address online and saw the offer price.

Could be a local offer. I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Just to clarify...

Spectrum 200 Mbps (100 Mbps in some remote areas) standard high speed internet is a NATIONWIDE regular rate of $74.99 and includes modem. Wireless router rental is $5/ month so buy your own and save money. Regular new customer promotion on this standard plan is $49.99/ month for 12 months. 2nd year rate goes up $10 and 3rd year to regular price. Upgrade to 400 Mbps for $20 more per month or 1 Gig for $60 more per month.

Often the 400 Mbps is available in competitive properties or areas at $49.99/ month for 24 months. Same plan can sometimes more rarely be found for $29.99/ month as OP stated YMMV. More areas for these promos will be added very soon as this is a current project happening now.

Current active Spectrum subscribers are not eligible for new customer rates but you may ask for a retention offer instead. Often these retention offers are not as good as initial new customer offers. Some customers cancel and restart an account or use another provider temporarily to be eligible for new customer rate again. Many customers play the game and call their internet provider every 12 months to get a new lower promotional rate.

Spectrum/Charter/formerly TWC has had a fiber optic backbone for 20+ years. Usually plant lines are connected to property coaxial cable lines put in by the builder and NOT Spectrum. Coax cable lines can theoretically support speeds up to 11 Gigs with recent DOCSIS 3.1 upgrades but with higher latency. Spectrum does have fiber to the unit in some locations (definitely a lot in Business Class) but keep in mind even with a fiber to the unit connection, you are often bottlenecking your speed benefits when connecting to a wireless router and using the WiFi. Really these higher speeds are just marketing ploys to get more money from residential addresses that don't have the correct or even necessary internal networking setup. Those higher speeds and fiber to the house connections are best really for business applications. 100 or 200 Mbps is more than sufficient for even many above average residential internet users.

Here is my story with Spectrum. A Spectrum sales guy left a business card so I called him to have Spectrum service set up. He told me there was a promotion in my area due to a new competitor and I would get $34.99 for 2 year. After he set up the service I got a confirmation email said $34.99. Then 2 day later I got another email with same title same content except that the price changed to $84.99. Called sales guy and he said he will get back to me but it never happened. Called Spectrum CS numerous time. The first lady was nice and tried to help but failed so she put a note and escalated my case and said someone will get back to me in 3-5 business days. Then nothing happened. I called again a guy said be patient and keep waiting. He also told me my promotion runs for 4 year not 2 year. Called 3rd time, this time an old lady looked at my account and told me what's wrong. She said every new customer should have a Champaign - Spectrum terminology for coupon. My new account has this Champaign missing for "some reason" so it went to full price. She said the promotion runs at 2 year tier. The price increases $20 every 2 year until it reaches full price. She again escalated my case and told me to check the online account several days later. I kept checking my online account several times each day and it finally changed to promotion price. BUT, the first month statement still shows $89.99. Have to call them again. One guy said wait and it will change. After a week no change called again. The lady talked to her manager and was told I have to paid full price for the first month because statement was out they can't change it. Well this is not my fault. Called again and threaten to cancel the service with their free 30 days of cancellation policy and they changed first month price immediately. If you don't have any issues with their promotion then you are good. If you do then brace yourself.
Its more or less, well we knows its our fault. But what can we do about it? You know you won't switch or do anything about it. So sometimes they win. I know my folks would happily pay more to Xfinity, if its wasn't for me. Because the CS is god-awful. I have to spend hours sometimes on the phone to get shit done. Just last month to get a landline added for someone, took over 2hours. We almost gave up, but I didn't. I got it done. They kept stating our package doesn't allow it. (Sister) Has basic cheap $10 internet 50/5. I told a rep finally at the end, I'm just done with all of this, and I broke down. I think he finally understood, I was at my wits end and was gonna say screw it. I was willing to pay more monthly for a service, that they wouldn't add on for me. I just don't get it. But whatever we got it done for my Sister.

$74.99 Spectrum here in Rochester NY. Everyone else is crap, except Greenlight, but takes forever to get in a new area. I wish.....
In the same boat(Syracuse) , Verizon Fios has been 3 miles down the road for the past 5 years and hasn't moved closer. Paying $75 for 100/10. While my friends sit on 400/400 or more on Verizon fios for half the cost.

Call and cancel. I do this after promo ends. As soon as you cancel-if they don't offer a better price, call back and put it different name- wife, girlfriend, husband, etc. You will then get promo rate again, and in my area the promo rate is good for 2 years.

Do they need your ss# when you use a new name? Thanks!

I have service with them, and inquired about upgrading to the Spectrum Gig service, which is already $100 a month during the promotional period and they wanted to slap on a $200 activation/service fee for turning on a switch. No thanks.

Yup. Just cancel and tell them to deactivate your modem. Go online and sign up under someone else name as new customer and call later to have them activate the same modem.

I don't remember having to give that. Just phone number, same address, an email address. I think we used a different credit card.

Switched back from Google Fiber last year when this offer came out: $29.99 for 400Mbps for 3 years inc modem. Will try to extend when it expires.

Spectrum is the best option in my area, but pricing sucks, we definitely don't have this deal going on.

Had 100mbps for $49.99/mo (no tax Internet only) non-promo price is $69/mo. I've had them extend my promo price twice the past two years. Recently my area got a base speed upgrade to 200mbps. My promo price went up $5, so now at $54.99/mo. I'm in the Central FL area, and they have no high speed competition in my neighborhood outside of 5G providers. Unfortunately this specific offer isn't available where I live.

Used to have them, if you have your own modem and router it's $30 for unlimited 'uncapped' data, but if you choose to lease their xFI system for $25/mo it's also unlimited, so it actually $5 cheaper to lease their equipment if you don't want a data cap, didn't make sense.

It does look like it is location specific. I tried to get the deal up in Minnesota and it was not available.

Is your fios bill $39.99 total? I was told $39.99 + taxes and fees which comes out to about $70. I have spectrum and trying to find another service since they increase rates every year.
Not for internet... most areas only have a $1 or $1.49 fee. And you pay 0 tax if you own your own modem. I legit pay $41.49 for the last 3 years in NYC for fios total. 300/300.
$39.99 + $1.49 fee. Nothing else.

Extreme Pro 600 is getting speed increase to Extreme Pro 800 next week according to DSLreports. Which is 960Mbps with 20% overhead would max out gigabit ethernet.

Ok good to know. For some reason my fios charges all kinds of fees. There was a spectrum outtage recently and fios took advantage of that and their reps went door to door. I had one explain to me all the fees, installation, modem fee. It will cost me as much as spectrum.
