Spectrum Internet Ultra 400Mbps $29.99/month for 2 years YMMV

Received a card from Spectrum in the mail. It offers $29.99/month for its Internet Ultra (400Mbps) for 2 years with no contracts, including free modem. Valid through 3/17/2021. Call 1-844-793-7442 or go to Spectrum.com. I entered my address online and saw the offer price.

Could be a local offer. I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Just to clarify...

Spectrum 200 Mbps (100 Mbps in some remote areas) standard high speed internet is a NATIONWIDE regular rate of $74.99 and includes modem. Wireless router rental is $5/ month so buy your own and save money. Regular new customer promotion on this standard plan is $49.99/ month for 12 months. 2nd year rate goes up $10 and 3rd year to regular price. Upgrade to 400 Mbps for $20 more per month or 1 Gig for $60 more per month.

Often the 400 Mbps is available in competitive properties or areas at $49.99/ month for 24 months. Same plan can sometimes more rarely be found for $29.99/ month as OP stated YMMV. More areas for these promos will be added very soon as this is a current project happening now.

Current active Spectrum subscribers are not eligible for new customer rates but you may ask for a retention offer instead. Often these retention offers are not as good as initial new customer offers. Some customers cancel and restart an account or use another provider temporarily to be eligible for new customer rate again. Many customers play the game and call their internet provider every 12 months to get a new lower promotional rate.

Spectrum/Charter/formerly TWC has had a fiber optic backbone for 20+ years. Usually plant lines are connected to property coaxial cable lines put in by the builder and NOT Spectrum. Coax cable lines can theoretically support speeds up to 11 Gigs with recent DOCSIS 3.1 upgrades but with higher latency. Spectrum does have fiber to the unit in some locations (definitely a lot in Business Class) but keep in mind even with a fiber to the unit connection, you are often bottlenecking your speed benefits when connecting to a wireless router and using the WiFi. Really these higher speeds are just marketing ploys to get more money from residential addresses that don't have the correct or even necessary internal networking setup. Those higher speeds and fiber to the house connections are best really for business applications. 100 or 200 Mbps is more than sufficient for even many above average residential internet users.

Got this offer also back in 2019 when I was with at&t. Been good so far. Only recently started having router connection issues... brought back their router and they gave me a newer version. Was unstable at first but seems fine now. Dont know if there was a true hardware issue or more a signal issue with the modem / network.

RCN has $44.99 promo for Gigabit in Chicago. and 500Mbps for $49.99 I wouldn't switch to Xfinity it has Data Cap if go over it will cost you a lot more.

Ok good to know. For some reason my fios charges all kinds of fees. There was a spectrum outtage recently and fios took advantage of that and their reps went door to door. I had one explain to me all the fees, installation, modem fee. It will cost me as much as spectrum.
Do you have TV also? or just internet? TV & Phone service is like everywhere...

Modem fee? Just buy your own, like spectrum.

Spectrum is the worst. We used to have Time Warner and it was bought out by Spectrum. They told us we could keep our Time Warner Package Prices and that we were considered separate companies. So now they made our equipment obsolete and told us we need to switch to Spectrum but we are not eligible for Spectrum Packages even though we are separate companies. We supposedly get 200mbps and only get 25-50mbps.

When they made us switch, they made us bring in the modem to their office to change it out. After about a 90 minute wait, they gave us the exact same model of modem we were returning. I can't complain about the speed much, but I am paying $74.99 for that 200mbps.

Yeah weird, you want the fios mix & match plans. Switching to fios will be the best decision you ever make for your internet, I've had mine for a decade now.

You can estimate your taxes/fees here:

Maybe there's something higher in your state?

Buy your own if you ever have internet issues. It solves every problem my friends ever have had with their internet. They are like $60-$100, and then you never have to pay for another one again. Also your taxes and fees are lower when you supply your own modem.

Just read the ad. Looks like only in the areas that AT&T is in direct competition. Holding out for the $10 internet...lol

Spectrum has a retail store in my city. One can walk in there to signup or cancel and the in-person experience is SO much better than using their customer support via phone. Current customers just walk in there and toss your equipment on the counter and cancel service for your address. The next day have your spouse, roommate or any adult living in your home go in there and establish new service in their name. Viola! You get the promo price and brand new equipment. Choose self install since your home already had their service thus the wiring and filters are already setup for your address.

A side note: In my area the wifi router and modem they provide are mediocre. The genuine Motorola branded modems and modem+router combo units from years past were more reliable but these are no longer given out for free in our city. If someone is working from home would highly recommend they spend the money on eBay to grab a Motorola modem or Motorola modem+router combo unit. Believe this is the current compatibility list and your promised speeds will dictate which one you should choose. https://www.spectrum.net/support/...m-network/ If buying second hand on eBay etc the motorola units with the bare metal backplate are the ISP issued ones. The ones with the colorful overlay to help ID the ports are the retail packaged modems like you'd buy on Amazon. Or at least this used to be the case with Motorola products that had the same model # back in the 2010s.

This is targeted advertising for residences that either haven't had service for a while or have changed service to fiber and didn't go back to Spectrum. I got locked in at $30/month for 2 years (like OP) because the people who lived in the townhouse before me exclusively used AT&T.
