My local Costco has this hoop for $220. It seems the same as the one on the Spalding website for $599, except with a pad on the pole.

Does anyone know how big was the box? Just trying to see if it will fit in my SUV
I was wondering the same thing. Based on the OP's pic of the item on a pallet, I'm estimating it's ~50"W x 40"H x 12"D (I'm basing this on a "standard" 40"x48" pallet size)

Finally got this thing built. Be warned you're gonna need a helper, sawhorse (or similar), multiple ratchet sizes, a screw driver, and a lot of patience reading the instructions when you have to thread 3 different washer, spacer, bolt sizes through base poles, lower and upper poles, etc.

It comes neatly packaged with basically everything in the base with the poles slid in... but it's a definite chore getting together.

I used bags of play sand to fill the base. While fam been playing on it all day. The raising piston is smooth as can be and a 6 yr old change heights to a certain level.

Just be patient on install...

Did you fill the sand in the base or sand bags on the top. TIA

Anyone know the difference between this one https://www.walmart.com/ip/Spaldi...lsrc=aw.ds
I have this one from Walmart. The only real differences I can see are that 1. the Costco version has a padded pole, and that 2. the Costco version has a straight (vertical) pole whereas the Walmart has an angled pole. The latter is easier when playing under the hoop, since it moves the base further back, but it's likely not a huge difference.

Sand inside. I'd suggest rocking it backwards to distribute the sand towards the back of the base as well since it will compact toward the goal when pouring it in.

Is it still move/roll-able with sand inside? Debating between sand by itself, or water with tie-down straps and stakes (found a few meant for trampolines but look like they would work fine for hoops). I wanted to avoid filling gel since that seems rather permanent in the case that it doesn't work well.

I have not needed to move it since filling but I've been able to pull the goal post to get it on the wheels for a short time while I topped off some extra sand to make sure I had a bit more weight in the rear. I believe I could have easily moved it if needed. It did take effort to pull the goal post so the sand was definitely doing its job.

The Walmart ones have a polycarbonate backboard versus acrylic on the Costco model. After researching both, acrylic will give a rebound closer to that of a glass backboard, where a polycarb will deaden the ball more. Not sure how much of a difference, but that's my understanding. The polycarbonate backboards also tend to yellow much quicker after being outside for a while.

I filled mine with water and the Basegel additive. I believe if you want to drain it you just add some salt and that will liquify the gel. I also used tie downs and straps and it doesn't feel like my hoop is going to budge at all. I bought the straps from hoopanchor.com, you can definitely find your own, but the addition of the collar on the pole that also attaches to the ground anchors really firms up the entire structure.

I got you.

Thanks for providing the link for the anchor. Didn't know one existed.
