McDonald's: Crispy Chicken Sandwich - Buy One, Get One Free - YMMV

+7 Deal Score

This may not be nationwide, but in my Mcdonalds app there is BOGO deal for all the various Crispy Chicken sandwiches (regular, spicy, regular deluxe, spicy deluxe).

Today Only.

I also have a separate offer for free medium fries and free medium drink if you purchase a Crispy Chicken sandwich. This one is probably not nationwide, but it doesn't hurt to check the app.

What McDonald's seems to have missed is that the way Chick-fil-A and others prepare their chicken is the real secret sauce.

McDonald's needs to cook theirs using the same deep fat fryers with the same oil as the chicken nuggets, so even if they take a high quality piece of chicken with good breading, it still isn't going to come out of that as tasty. They could retrofit their kitchens, but most just don't have the space without sacrificing something else.

I guess my point is: Trying to compete in the "premium chicken" bracket is a losing proposition because McDonald's kitchens will never have dedicated pressure fryers with peanut oil.

I had one of these for free with a $0.99 drink, thanks OP!

Review:
I got the spicy which added an orange colored hot sauce that seemed mayo based. Not super hot but spicier than I expected. The chicken was smaller than the current crop of chicken sandwiches and less crispy. I did not detect any kind of flavor to it, maybe it was overwhelmed with the sauce. Decently moist and fresh seeming.

Overall, OK, I would take this sandwich free but in order of preference:

1. Popeyes is bigger, crispier and and has more flavor.
2. KFC: bigger, nice flavoring in the coating, I liked this one.
3. Chick-Fil'a: nice, bland, smaller than Popeye's/KFC. The chicken itself is tasty.
4. (most of the other premium chicken sandwiches)
5. this version of McD
6. the chicken burger sandwiches including the old McD sandwich
I tend to agree. Also, The new burger king one actually looks pretty good but way too expensive compared to the others.

There must be something wrong with me. I got the popeyes sandwich twice. Just not that great.

Got the McD's one, spicy was good, but not great. Better than the McChicken, but not sure I'd get it again. I don't go to McDs for good food. In a heart beat I'd choose ChickFilA every time. I'll just get burgers from McDs if I go here. Maybe the nuggets and fries if I'm sharing with someone else.
Popeyes can be hit or miss. In my experience, the one's sitting under the heat lamp are never as good as the one's freshly made.

I've tried Chick-fil-A twice and wasn't impressed either time. I can't figure out the hype.

Sounds like I will skip the mcdonalds one based on the sentiment here. Due to covid, I started making better quality sandwiches at home with similar flavors.

I had the crispy chicken sandwich from McDonalds today. It tastes like the McChicken but it's thicker. I would rank:
1. Chick fil'a
2. Popeyes
3. McDonalds
4. Others

Yeah, Chickfila is way overrated and quality has declined. Their chicken sandwiches not as good as they used to be. Crappy company too.

That sounds like a McChicken, what you described.

This is supposedly a "Crispy Chicken Fillet", per McDonald's website.

Seeing all these chicken sandwiches, makes me think everybody is gunning for Chick-Fil-A.

Popeyes has one, KFC has one, now McDonald's has one. All with pickles.
Chick-Fil-A started the competition. Popeye's turned it into a real race. KFC is a longshot. McDonald's is late to the party, and based on reviews, isn't going to wind up in the money.

Not sure I would call it real. Texture was off when I tried it. Spicy flavor was good.
it's real enough, but it has been 'processed' in some way. Places usually re-form it after removing the little cartilage piece in it.

It tasted so good when it first came out because they were making them when you ordered. Now the ones they give you have obviously been sitting on a rack or something drying out and getting hard.

The deluxe cost $1 more, anyone know if they use freshly cooked patties for that? Because the two times I've had it they were so fresh that it was probably a burn hazard.

nope

same patty on all 3 (the crispy, the deluxe, and the spicy deluxe)

if you can wait 12mins(and the inside of your mc d is open), ask them to make it fresh, it tastes so much better

ChickFilA is a fantastic company. Stands by its values/morals instead of joining corporate America to worship the dollar. Does Sunday off inspite of losing money to give its employees a breather. Ultimately so refreshing to see a company actually have values and then actually stand behind them. Foodwise....my experience has always been good. Customer service has been EXCELLENT. Just my opinion/experience and we welcome yours
