For what it's worth - I have a couple of these Crescent sets and I love them. The cases do suck but if anything sucks, I'd rather it be the case. One set is about 15 years old. But it's worth mentioning that there is a nice set at Sam's Club made by Channellock. It's a 200 piece set (half are screw driver bits) at the same 89 price point. It's wrenches are ratcheting...seems like a decent set but I don't have it. Link below:

Most of these are not even Crescent brand tools, so you won't be able to exchange them at any normal retailer.

Note that items like the crescent wrench is "Heavy Duty" brand

Be sure to look at the reviews of this set. Many have stated that all the tools were delivered covered in rust!

This set doesn't have 1/2in ratchet/sockets and has a bunch of other filler items

I'll agree the cases suck. They suck so much I'd not buy another. Mine for work is currently held together with a bungie cord.

That Channellock set looks interesting. Reviews are decent. I love the fact wrenches are all racheting?

I have been eyeing it but I couldn't find details in sockets to decide buy it or not.

Crescent is owned by Apex Tool Group...which make a ton of products. They even make a lot of big box store brand items...dare I say Husky and Kobalt. Apex owns GearWrench as well. It's not Snap-on buy you aren't paying those kinda prices either. I'd probably take the Crescent over Stanley or Harbor Freight Pittsburgh stuff, even the Chinese made Craftsman stuff. Compared to Husky and Kobalt - depends what you're buying but to me it's about all the same...both in quality and in price point.

I also have a crescent set from 10 years ago and it's been perfectly fine, except the latches on the case. The channellock set looks nice and I can't imagine they would put their name on a bad product, but their website only shows mechanic sets made in Taiwan. The sam's club version is not listed on their website and is made in China.

I have 5 similar tool sets including husky, craftsman, dewalt, and the channellock one from sam's which is the best value of all largely due to the ratcheting wrenches. I'd buy the channellock over the crescent one any day. Lifetime warranty on the channellock as well
