The outermost filter is washable so wash it when it gets dirty and let it dry completely. The carbon filter can be changed once it's dirty. The innermost HEPA filter, if every month you take it out lightly tap on it so that most of the dirt and stuff fall off, you can go a lot longer than however long they recommend.

This is a good price for the official S filter. 3rd party ones on Amazon and Ebay are at around this price too.

They make a clownish amount of profit at this price. So aggravating.
Reminds me of the classic ink jet printer pricing model.

Sell the unit for cheap. Sell the consumables (ink or in this case the filters) for basically half the cost of a new unit.

Now I'm second guessing all my Ionizing air purifiers.

"Both chamber and field tests found that an ionizing device led to a decrease in some volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including xylenes, but an increase in others, most prominently oxygenated VOCs (e.g., acetone, ethanol) and toluene, substances commonly found in paints, paint strippers, aerosol sprays and pesticides. According to the EPA, exposure to VOCs has been linked to a range of health effects from eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches, loss of coordination and nausea, to damage to liver, kidney and central nervous system, and some organics can cause cancer in animals, some are suspected or known to cause cancer in humans."

They also have the 5500 and C535 filter for the same price just in a 2 pack.

No, the C535 uses a different filter which is larger so these will not work on a 535.
535 filters are on sale too

And having a costco membership is a license to save money. How are YOU not comprehending that?
I didn't comprehend that for a long time. It cost me a few years of deals. Finally I grabbed one through Groupon.

I've had it for about 6 months now. It's saved me a lot more than 55. Better yet, I'm eating better and saving while doing it. I thought it was just another Sam's club but it's nothing at all like it.

Not trying to say it would do the same for you. It really depends on what you buy.

I seem to remember people saying the virus is smaller than .3(?) microns or whatever... So this isn't useful for that, right? Thinking about bringing mine into my classroom, but not convinced it'll help much at all
The filters with UV light actually kill the virus
