I bought this from Costco last July for the same price, and my daughter has been very happy with it. She uses it for school/zoom and light gaming (roblox, minecraft, etc.). No problems and the build quality seems good.

The main drawback of this laptop is that the 8gb of memory is soldered on and cannot be expanded (at least, according to the previous thread). I have not opened it to confirm. It has been enough for her current usage, but I imagine I will be sorry that I cannot add memory to it in the future.

Yes, based on the Kingston Memory configurator, that is the case.

If you have LPDDR or low powered DDR Ram, whether DDR3, DDR4 or may be DDR5 in future, that is always going to be soldered.

I bought this a little while back at a similar price. Very happy with it. I just use it for web browsing, some video streaming and occasionally vdi. Very lightweight, small footprint, battery lasts a long time, boots quickly, finger print scanner is very fast, and the keyboard/trackpad work well. I have no complaints.

Thanks for your input! Does it have a webcam? I was looking at some other threads on SD for this computer (and the one at Costco) and saw someone post about this laptop and said they returned it because it didn't have a webcam. https://slickdeals.net/e/14227346-acer-swift-3-laptop-ryzen-5-4500u-14-1080p-ips-8gb-ddr4-512gb-ssd-...

Not sure if it matters, but the Walmart one doesn't have a built in webcam. We got one for zoom and online schooling right now so that was an unwelcome surprise. Returned it and got the Staples one. Would be a bit of a debate if this one had actually been available at that time but 8 yo prolly won't notice the difference so the cheaper one prolly isn't too bad.

The picture looks like it has one . . . Maybe they were referencing a different model.

In any case, I ordered this Walmart Acer yesterday afternoon after comparing it to a lot of others. I wasn't sure about the 256gb ssd or the 8gb of ram or even the display. I think I was just getting overwhelmed with the options and wanted to pick one. This one from Walmart dropped $79 in price while I was trying to decide so I just ordered it as it was in our price range, it is lightweight and people seem relatively happy with it (both this one and the Costco one with more storage).

I have the Costco model which has 512 GB. I bought also last July for the same price. Backlight keyboard is little annoying. The keyboard color and the backlight contrast during daylight. But other than that's it's been awesome. I use USB c port to charge and connect hdmi to my curved monitor and I am very happy with it.

The light colored keyboard with the backlight on the Costco model was the reason I passed on that one. I would have liked more storage but thought that the light keyboard might be hard for me.

The one issue is if you use a headset with mic, for some reason the mic doesn't work you have to use the mic on the laptop... Annoying sent to Acer to fix and they could not fix all they did was update the bios.

Here's a cnet review [cnet.com] that includes this specific model (Swift 3 SF314-42-R0HP).

I also found specific information on the integrated graphics of the Ryzen 5 4500U [laptoping.com]. It outperforms or matches Intel Iris Plus and Vega, but is beat by Iris Xe, some Iris Pro, Pro Vega, and some RX Vega.

This price is below a lot of refurb prices for nice configs of the Swift 3, but is not that low for the Walmart price, so... warm? Then again, the Swift 3 gets the best reviews of 2020's budget laptops [pcmag.com], so if you're shopping specifically for that model....

I didn't realize this was a slightly different model as I bought the Costco version. I can confirm that the Costco version does have a webcam, but can't confirm on this model unfortunately.

It also has. This is same laptop with different configuration whether the only thing changes is the internal hardware spec, like The Processor, Ram, storage etc. but the build quality, Keyboard, ports and other features remain same. Not sure why you guys are so confused.

For example, say Dell XPS 9310 is the latest XPS 13 model and it can have different configurations like i5-1135G7 or i7-1165G7, 8GB, 16GB or 32GB Ram, from 256GB to 1TB PCIe SSD. But the build quality, number of ports, webcam location...all are same across the series.

Thanks for clarifying. I figured it had a webcam but even the Acer page omits this info when it shows it for other models. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/con....HULAA.001 The differences aren't super important - I just got overwhelmed looking at so many different laptops. This one sounds like it was a good purchase and I appreciate everyone's input. Thanks again.
