nvm, i believe Capital One is all MC, not VISA.

For Costco, get the Costco Visa card from Citi. No annual fee, 2% back on spend at Costco, 3% back on restaurants and travel, and 4% back on gas including gas not purchased at Costco. Pretty good for a no annual fee card.

This card is a MasterCard.

CapitalOne has Visa cards, most notably the Venture and VentureOne. The SavorOne, however, is a Mastercard.

If you apply and if CapitalOne issues you a card, there will be a credit limit. So long as your loan is under the credit limit, AND so long as your car loan provider allows you to make payoff payments via credit card (some do not), then yes, you could in theory benefit from the card's 0% intro APR on purchases for 15 months. Start by checking with your car loan provider to make certain they will permit you to make a payoff payment via credit card.

I think this is better than Blue Cash Everyday?

CapOne: Unlimited 3% at supermarkets
Amex: First $6,000 is 3% at supermarkets

CapOne: 3% on dining & entertainment
Amex: Nada

CapOne: No foreign transaction fees (if it matters to you)
Amex: 2.7%, and additionally, Amex isn't as well accepted internationally as Mastercard

I once would have said the warranty protection is a huge plus for Amex - but no-fee cards like Blue Cash Everyday no longer have that.

You still get (with Amex) the option for the $20 add-on rental car insurance, which I think is awesome | makes me want to always have at least 1 Amex card.

Except for that though...this seems better than blue cash everyday, unless I'm missing something?

The smaller Walmart Neighborhood stores count as grocery stores. The large Big Box stores do not.
I signed up for this card 3 weeks ago and there was a $250 bonus at that time, you might look around for the $250 link somewhere. It may be expired now. I got my $250 credit already.

Capitol One is very conservative though so, they issue denials very easily.
Can vouch for this. Applied last time it hit FP and got approved. Charged the $500+ within 6 weeks and they gave me the $200 in bonus points immediately!

does Capital One have a limit on how many of their own credit card that you can have?

I already have two other cards from them... just wondering if applying for a third one will be accepted?

also.... does Capital One consider Walmart and Target to be "grocery stores" for the cash back purpose? lately, I buy my groceries from those two places only.(milk, bread, eggs, cereals, vegetables, etc)

Took about 2 minutes to apply and get approved. I was able to link the card to my existing Capital One account and get my virtual card number instantly! I have added it to my Amazon and PayPal but haven't made a purchase yet, will update you if it goes through with the virtual number. Thanks OP!

Edit: still waiting for my card, but I was able to make a purchase on Newegg yesterday using the virtual card number!

Is there any downside to opening an account and then closing it afterwards just for the bonus?

Potentially being black listed, hard inquiry on your record etc

I have 2 cards from them including Walmart card. They are really conservative so buyer beware!

What counts as a grocery store? A supermarket, meat locker, freezer, dairy product store and specialty market. Excludes superstores like Walmart® and Target®

www.doctorofcredit.com has all the faqs:

1. Cap1 allows only 2 personal cards & 2 business cards (but a few have extra grandfathered in) & co-branded cards do not count

2. Cap1 pulls from ALL 3 bureaus at each time for each application (3 pulls per application & averages them out!)

3. need at least 720-740+ mininum FICO according to data points from last several years (but other factors such as too high balances or too many inquiries in past year can cause rejection).. do not know of this year's mininum
so if you are APPROVED; please list your FICO score that got approved
&
how many new cards you got in the past 2 years because there is rumor that Savor cards have a 5/24 rule similar to Chase (ie; must be under 5 new credit card accounts in past 24 months)
