Very light duty only. I bought these the last time around, clipped 12ga Romex a couple times, about 20 wires as I went around changing electrical outlets, and suddenly it was really difficult to cut off lengths of Romex. They dulled over the course of a few hours on regular wires and Romex.

They're still fine for individual 12ga wires, but their days of clipping Romex was over after a grand total of 3
Vise-Grip is just a trademark Irwin owns. Tastee Cakes aren't tasty, either.
I feel like Irwin quality has gone down on most their stuff in the past decade or so. I bought a lot of their stuff to replace older tools I had and I expected decent quality and they're not much better than any other brands, or maybe worse. They seem to try to get away on their name these days.

Nice. If you're not in a rush, may want to hold out for the larger version.

Why is it called vise grips? It does not look like it has any vise mechanism. Looks like a regular diagonal cutters.

You can still cut Romex with these, just take it a bit at a time. They'll last longer if you do it that way as well.

For the price they are fairly good quality. BTW, I bought a pair of these last month (to replace a pair I lost) when they were featured on SlickDeals and they cost me $9.49 — almost $2 more than this.

So.....serious question.

How are these a better deal than the 8" Hyper Tough cutting pliers at Walmart for $5.97 every day?
Or the 6" cutting pliers for less than $5 every day?

They absolutely do undeservedly get along on their name, if you read a lot of their reviews you're far from alone

Should I really be expected to baby a pair of Irwin snips on 12ga romex? Is it unreasonable to expect them to not be dulled if I cut romex twice? Is this, in any way, a better performer than a $2.49 pair of Harbor Freight cutters?
