Just picked these up, they are clones of the BLON B20 and Sendy Aiva driver and before you talk about the Takstars using the same drivers word on the street is the Takstars are nowhere near as good and these are 80%+ the quality of the $600+ Sendy Aiva, which is a gap that can probably be closed by spending the $30 you save on the Sendy Aiva's premium pads.

For anyone wondering here is a FR graph.
https://cdn.head-fi.org/a/10365938.png
From this they should be Bassy and have been described as having a veil, I am wearing modded headphons with a rather large sub bass, mid bass and low mid boost and it's rather very dark not veiled as described (I say this comparing them to Sundara which is about the least veiled headphone) at first you will notice the very dark and Bassy presentation of vocals but the veil is a phycological one you will get used to the same way I can wear sundara's and have it feel natural and have my modded headphone feel more natural than many other "better" sets in my collection.

For $120 it's a steal if you like Bass and are sensitive or don't really care about forward treble and want quality audio.

However do beware there is conflicting information listed on Monoprice's website (and hard to find)
"Monoprice Refurbished and Open Box Products

Our refurbished and open box products go through a rigorous testing process and are guaranteed to work like new. If unsatisfied for any reason, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee and a 90-day warranty if found to be defective."

yet another page says
"Monoprice warranties vary by product, and all product-specific warranties are found on product ID pages and within Monoprice's website. Subject to this limitation, in general, Monoprice warrants (a) cables and wall mounts for life, (b) Monolith products carry a minimum 3 year warranty, up to 5 years on select products and (c) that all other products will be free from defects in workmanship and material for one year following delivery date, with certain exceptions. You must review product ID pages carefully for warranty information. "

Specifically saying all Monolith products carry a minimum 3 year warranty.... If you are a shark you will likely be able to persuade monoprice to honor the 3 year warranty (shark make sure to screenshot the page google search with quotes if you need the URL) and anyway I akways suggest you use a credit card that provides a 1year extra warranty on most purchase(not hard to get you may have it and not know it)

If you are unwilling to fight for your rights you may get shafted if you have problems past 90 days and don't have a card with an extra 1 year of warranty however despite these information being conflicting it clearly says on the second warranty snippet it says
"You must review product ID pages carefully for warranty information. "
I would use this fact and
"Monolith products carry a minimum 3 year warranty,"
to establish at best the information is conflicting and demand service up to 3 years past purchase date from monprice, then with a CC dispute, then with my credit card companies claims if they failed to resolve in my favor.

So buyers beware.

Same coupon brings the open-box M1070s to $255.99 before tax and shipping.

The 1060's are OOS too, and that's the only other monolith can I would grab. I've read the 1070's have a wonky midrange/lower treble tuning and no sub bass but they are still in stock. I would totally buy a backup m570 set, they are spectacular if you can get them under 200. Thanks for posting OP. Hopefully new sets go on sale again.

No, you're confused. I provided the link for you since you literally said an M570 under $200 would be, "spectacular" and hoped "new" ones would go on sale.

I'm only taking issue with the way you phrased it. It could have been a nice, "hey man, you must have missed it, but it's on sale. Here's a link." Instead, I took it like "hey stupid, here's your damn link to the sale". I'm sorry if I mistook what you intended as a kind gesture. If that's the case, thanks for the link kind audiophile stranger.

So... I've been A/B testing them against the HE-560 Gen1 Release 2 (Bad yolks, no fancy box) using Hart Audio balanced cables.

You guys wanna hear the good news first or the bad news?

$120 is the headphone deal of a lifetime (That was easy to get from anyone that wanted it).

Are they a better value than the Hifiman HE-560 because they were almost 3 times less than what I paid and more than half the price than the current v4 version? Yes they are.

Are they a better value because they sound almost as good, but far cheaper? No. Hell no. They are a better value because they sound better 1:1 and are damn cheaper on top of it.

Sorry, not sorry.

Modius/Magnius Stack in Balanced mode.

Do they slaughter the HE-560? No. Hell no. Seems to trade in a tiny bit of high end treble for more sub-bass. You seem to get more out of the trade though. IF I had to put it in numbers.. you give up 5% highs for 10% more lows. That's complete and utterly inaccurate, but in the spirit of what my limited vocabulary is trying to convey.

I am not a reviewer so I'm not going to spend time A/B testing in single ended... I recommend these for balanced usage, highly recommended. Ultimately, I'd be willing to bet 99% of the folks out there would prefer that trade than the HE-560s. That said, there is that 1% that would like them more and regardless of all this personal opinion shit, they perform similarly when you approach them from a real use perspective.

...but since they are cheaper, well, what else can you say?

Notes: My unit did come with a bright sticker stating "inspection approved", but they showed no signs of use.

They truly are heavier than most headphones, but its not like it'll break your neck or anything.

Finally, they do leak sound more the HE-560. Don't bother getting ready to reply that Planars like these are open back and that is what they do by design... duh, I get it. I literally just compared them to a 3 year old set of HE-560s. I'm well aware of planar open back real world quirks... and yes, they leak out even MORE than those.

I don't usually mute my headphones when listening to my bookshelf speakers (different DAC/AMP combo from the Schiit stack), but I noticed right away the volume I listen to leaves an audible level when not on my head. Something the HE-560s don't. Anyone who finds these M570s quiter than other planars are not driving their planars properly. There, I said it.
