what above guy said, although that zeiss badge and being 1.4, $500 is really unrealistic lol.
but a lot of 3rd party options at a fraction of the price that doesnt really fall behind this lens much at all.

Please note this lens has a lot of batches with decentering issues. Bought mine from a reputable online seller and had to return it.

Went for the Sony 35mm F1.8 instead and it's been working great. Really wanted to keep the Zeiss, but the decentering issue was big for me and a big shock given the price point.

With the G Master coming in at $1400, I would probably consider $1000 to be the new normal for this older one. A real slick deal would probably be around the $750 range, which is the price of the also-excellent Sony FE 35mm f/1.8. I have the f/1.8 and it's excellent, and very compact.

The new G 35mm 1.4 mentioned above is far better, and the cheaper 35mm 1.8 is actually also newer and better too (just not as good as the new G 1.4). So consider those.

$1000 is too much for the issues of this older lens

Yea, decentering is super bad from what i am hearing. Not even worth the $1,000 price tag. More like $250 as Gerald Undone has tested this lens out and said its bad. So better of with the $700 Sony 35 mm F/1.8 lens.

Yes, many Sony Zeiss lenses are known for their decentering. At inexcusable flaw for lenses at these prices.

A cheap Rokinon, Samyang, or Viltrox offers better quality. But the best in this focal length appear to be the Sony models you highlighted.

Yes, good info. This and the 50za are decenter kings. In fact, if there is ever an astroid going to hit earth, if enough people point their zony glass at it, it surely it will miss it's target and go off course

Had this. It's a bad lens tbh. Has bad resolution/color rendering and also a lot of color fringing

The G Master made this lens irrelevant.

Buy a third party 35mm prime. This isn't worth it.

I just purchased this lens and it is absolutely amazing. Perfect from edge to edge. Read all the warnings about decentering, so I immediately tested the hell out of it… using both non-scientific methods (pixel peeping eye test) and also using test chart for decentering ($28) and found no issues at all. I also have the Sigma 35 F/1.2 which is amazing…but couldn't pass up this lens for $898 (student discount). The bokeh and sooc colors are much better on the Zeiss. I'd buy this again over the gm 1.4 and save the $$$. Just be sure to buy from a reputable dealer with a liberal return policy
