I used a $5 speed perk reward coupon. Did I just waste my coupon?

I doubt it is silicon based, as silicon is sand and that would serverly damage any car's paintjob. It is more likely that it is silicone based which is like a synthetic oil that sticks to surfaces well, but repels water.
Ah...the failures of auto correcting keyboards....

Right. Silicone. Like the oven mitts...or play toys...

Rain-X products won't get within 20 feet of my vehicles.
They can stick to their shill silicone spray for windshields.

Also, this is using ceramic as a stretch.
You didn't provide any reasoning behind the why? These types of comments are utterly useless.

This product does not necessarily add shine or gloss.
New product you've never used, so more internet misinformation. Bottle literally says long-lasting shine and protection.

Got my bottle yesterday, washed car, and applied the X Ceramic detailer this morning in the garage on a 2012 Mustang. Absolutely amazing! I typically just used a rapid detailer from Ollies, but this works really well. Cannot see any swirls and the surface is smooth and looks like glass!

I can see why they are giving a bottle away to try it. So much easier than using waxes!

What???
Cars are made of metal, usually steels.

Steels rust and corrode, so they apply paint on it.

Paint is eaten away with acid rain - dust/dirt + water - sitting on it too long, so they apply a clear coat of paint on top of that.

The general idea is that damage occurs to the clear coat, which is thick enough to buff and polish after washing away the dirt and debris on it to give the owner a 'shiny/glossy' look for a decade or so, as long as the owner does the basic of taking it to the car wash every month or so.
Eventually, the clear coat is eaten away and worn to the point where the underlying paint layer is exposed, and that's when you see the ugly cars on the streets with 'balding' spots of paint, usually on the surfaces that face up (roof, trunk).

The serious car owners that want to retain the like-new look longer apply waxes and such to the clear coat, which acts like a clear-coat on clear-coat. Sacrificial and usually wears off in a month or less (regular wax, outdoors; can be months if car is always garaged).

On the flip side, some ignore waxing and simply drive through the monthly pre-paid, car wash-everyday car washes and keep the paint clean everyday. (popular in cities like Los Angeles where a 'normal' 40+ mile round trip drive to work immediately covers the car in a fine sheen of road dust and smog.)

Of course, at some point, owners get rid of their cars (8-12 year for those buying their cars; 2-4 years for lease), so the clear coat only needs to do its job long enough before becoming a second-hand, then junked.

For owners of $$$$$ cars, they turn to all the latest coatings like epoxy/etc. which apply a hard coat on top of the clear coat. Some wrap cars in plastic film of different colors. Some simply keep their cars in the garage forever.

...

For most people, wash the car when it becomes visibly dirty/dusty. Don't wait until it looks gross. Then, finger on dry paint and feel - is it slick? Does it feel like it's gliding smoothly across the surface? Or rough and doesn't glide?

Smooth = there's wax. Rough = wax worn off.

If it's rough, spray/wax and get it back to smooth. That's all. 5 minutes with this spray.

...

For the lazy, just drive it through the car wash, which usually has a 'wax' spray. Doesn't last long, but as long as you wash the car when it's not too dirty, it'll keep the car paint looking good for years. Many gas station drive thru car washes do an ok job keeping your car looking decent with improved waxes and such. Of course, the downside? Headlights that seemingly haze up, fooling people into getting the headlight cleaners. NO!!! Test first! If you can remove the haze quick with a paper towel and WD-40, it's just drive-thru car wax - no need for a headlight cleaning kit.

...

For the crazy, there's ample pro forums where they talk about all the $$$ products to shine, gloss, protect, as well as the best tools to measure paint thickness, gloss level, etc.

Anyone else have a $10 coupon? Not sure how I did, but there it was during checkout. I had to select it under "speed perks rewards". Pretty nice surprise.

I doubt rain-x will last anywhere near as long as the above listed. Most people report it has weeks of lifetime. It wasn't part of the test, but you can see there are tons of products that will fail fast.

These all beat the $23 gloss it spray, $70 F11 top coat, $50 Owner price, $42 the Last Coat 2, $40 Nexgen, $40 Carpro reload, $20 Shine Armor and the $13-$15 three turtle wax applications.

Project Farm also cover some Ceramic Sprays. Turtle Wax is a leader.

I love project farm but I feel his test was way less likly to reflect real world results compared to the test I posted. The test I posted also had turtle wax fail a lot sooner than Project Farm. I think Project Farms tests were flawed.
