I've read through the policy in detail, and I'm a very confused on which phones are covered. I have two current phones that were purchased from eBay/Craiglist on my T-Mobile postpaid account that I pay with my AMEX. Are these covered?

What does "replacement" mean? Is it replaced phones in the event of a claim? Is it also phones that I replace on my T-Mobile plan going forward?

This is all totally unclear to me.
Then like any Insurance, they have done their job well. LOL. Don't blame you without it being fully explained very hard to know all the info.

Looks to be available only for specific cards
Yeah, the title explicitly states: Amex Platinum

Amex platinum is a card, not a category of cards like Visa Signature.
Its ~$550 per year

My bank offers a 600 dollar cellphone protection thing too. I guess it's getting pretty popular to pull people in.

also it says you have to pay your bill with it. you will lose your 10 dollar discount for auto pay won't you for using your credit card instead of bank account/debt?
I have tmobile, I always paid with credit card and I get an auto-pay discount.

The biggest concern I have about this coverage compared to what I pay a lot to T-mobile for is that it only reimburses the cash cost of fixing the phone, my coverage through T-mobile/Asurion provides AppleCare for the first two years (so I can take it to the Apple Store), then after that Asurion will fix the phone (typically by providing a remanufactured phone).
My experience with the wells fargo cash card. You get an estimate, they send you a physical check (minus taxes before there was a deductible) and it's up to you what you want to do with it.

I cracked my screen on my XS Max last week. Paid to replace the screen as well. Could I still get reimbursed? I paid for an LCD but would like to get back to OLED….thank you!
I doubt it. I imagine you can crack your screen again and then use the insurance to pay for the repair.

I use my VZW Visa to pay my wireless bill (rewards and such), and when you consider that most iphones and high-end Android devices are easily $1k+, it's probably a wash if you ever actually need to use this feature. At least for me.

Chase Freedom Flex MasterCard does this.
"Cell Phone Protection

Get up to $800 per claim and $1,000 per year in cell phone protection against covered theft or damage for phones listed on your monthly cell phone bill when you pay it with your eligible credit card. Maximum of 2 claims in a 12 month period with a $50 deductible per claim.*"

This benefit didnt take effect until 04/01 so unless you broke and repaired it after Thursday last week, they would deny your claim.

I havent claimed this AMEX one before but i had made a claim on my chase ink one. They allowed me to go into apple and get a replacement immediately, then i submitted the claim with the original purchase receipt, the monthly bill i paid and a copy of the repair receipt from apple with the reason (water ingress) and repair cost.

Then sent me a check a few weeks later, no questions asked.
But yeah, thats just my experience.

Last year I looked at the terms on the Wells Fargo CC regarding cell phones and it says only physical damage to the phone is covered. It specifically excludes any coverage for electronics failures or bad (bulging) batteries. So WF's coverage is only useful if you break your phone by dropping it. I suppose if one has an electronics failure one could always "accidentally" smash it on the ground. In a sane world, I would've expected their coverage to be the opposite (i.e. for electronics/batteries failures and not rewarding people for dropping it).

I'm sure the Amex Blue Cash Everyday is excluded from any phone coverage because it's pretty much always excluded from anything good.
Drop the phone and break it.

Nice additional benefit for Amex card owners. Personally I use no annual fee Uber visa from Barclay Bank which has similar offer but capped at $600 per claim.

Yah Ink Preferred (biz card). Also has 3x on cell phone plans, cable, and the likes, so putting your bill on it is not to bad
