I use these bulbs in stand alone light fixtures where they're not controlled by a plug or a switch. Plus, these bulbs can be dimmed where a plug can't do that. You don't typically want to mix smart bulbs with smart switches as you eluded to...and kasa makes a 3 way switch that works great.

In more detail, one of my smart bulbs is for a desk lamp for my wife, one of my colored smart bulbs is on our entry table and will adjust color temp and brightness throughout the evening, and one is used behind our tv as a "mood" light (i have a movie scene that I execute to change the colors while we're watching the movie...it's unnecessary but the tech nerd in me loves it).

Any light that would be controlled by a switch has a smart switch or dimmer and I use my plugs for things like our wax melter and xmas tree (during that time of year).
I guess my problem is that every light fixture in my house is controlled by a switch and my lamps are all integrated LEDs so no bulbs there. I had a few smart bulbs but needed to tape the switches on. That was not a viable solution however since my wife did not like the tape-deco interior design style.Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

With these smart devices, understanding your wants, needs, lighting and electrical structure (and other terms for this) are all important before trying to fit something into your set up...i've had a number of friends who try this by putting smart bulbs in their ceiling fan but those lights are controlled by a switch (sometimes a smart switch) and they think it's not working well when they need to understand that smart devices need common power to stay connected, it needs one connection type, and they need to understand how they'll use it before just buying the device and saying "make it work".

In your case, the bulbs definitely don't make sense but maybe a dimmer does in some cases whereas others the switch is probably fine.
