https://www.costco.com/msi-ge75-r...68605.html - $1149.99

Sign of the times. This was $50 cheaper back In Feb (though that was without Outrider). But with most new generation laptops MIA and deals drying up, this is still a good deal.

Unlike most 10th Gen Intel laptops, MSI allows undervolting. I bought one and did the UV and OC and will try to answer any questions you have. UV makes a big difference on the CPU (runs faster at 45W than it did at 55W stock), and you can run it maxed out at 4.3GHz on all cores indefinitely if you have some workloads that need it. I boosted GPU performance >10% as well, using Afterburner. https://www.techpowerup.com/forum...75.279412/

As always from Costco:

90 day free returns.
2 year warranty (4 if you use their card).

Specs here (this is the 008 model): https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GE75-Ra...cification

Some things I like:

1) 17.3" 1080p display, 144Hz, >300nits, 3ms response, high contrast, 100% sRGB.
2) RTX 2060 is 115W, which means it's ~15% faster than 80W 2060s and 1660 Ti, and faster than many 2070 and 3060 laptops that are throttled to a lower wattage.
3) MSI supports UV on Intel CPUs which makes them much more competitive vs Ryzen. With the UV it's faster than a 4600H in Cinebench.
4) It has great speakers for a laptop
5) You can install two NVMe drives as well as a 2.5" drive.
6) Costco warranty and return policy!

Only consistent complaint I see is that thing has fans that are loud when idle and *very* loud when gaming. Anyone with this model or similar have an opinion based on previous experience? Curious just how much of that is exaggerated and if it's something that would be unusable in an area where you're around other people due to noise.
It's a big deal when they are blowing full blast. If you wear a headset in a room by yourself, you're gtg. If you are in the same room as your wife and she's watching TV next to you?... not so much

You can, and should turn silent mode on in the settings and most games will run really well. I haven't played any games that don't run well in silent mode. I haven't looked at my clock in silent mode so I don't know what % it cuts the clock down.

[QUOTE=mullen1200;146490353]Laptops tend to last one to three years. If you have the space a desktop is better if you don't need to take your PC with you[/QUOTE

I'm still using my Acer 9805WKHI with the 20 inch display that I bought in 2006 and it went with me to Iraq and performed well. Its kinda slow nowadays. I will get another one soon but I was waiting for the 17 inch LG Gram. Mine is kinda old now.

Can't even come close to building a desktop for this much right now with graphics cards where they are.

Very informative post, thanks OP . I didn't realize MSI notebooks allowed for UV and fan silencing--awesome features.

Today, this seemingly excellent deal from Costco dropped:
https://www.costco.com/msi-gf75-t...79310.html [costco.com] . That's $800 + tax before a $200 costco cash card, for net $600 + tax if you value the costco rebate at par.

My question is can all these same tricks (UV, fan silencing, etc.) be used on this cheaper MSI gaming laptop product? TIA.
I like that. Thanks!

What is the case construction on these?

I did a search and couldn't find anything specific about the GF series allowing undervolt with 10th gen Intel... but I'd guess you can. The bios looks the same as the Raider. This guy is pretty retarded (he calls it a Gigabyte with a Ryzen, but it's really a MSI GF with the 10300H). He shows what the bios looks like but didn't try to unlock it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehgo114A2GI

Silent Option is a MSI app so should work with the GF.

That's a good deal from Costco, especially if you already have the card. You should post it up here on SD.

I bought this back in Nov when it was on sale. Upgraded my MSI GF72. It has been great! Plenty fast and the screen is just fine.

Yes... I shouldn't have to switch to silent mode but at least there's an option and it does work well. The 115w 2060 is great.
I highly recommend:

CPU UV and setting control using Throttlestop.
GPU UV and OC and setting control using Afterburner.
Fan control using Silent Option.
Dragon Center is disabled (might just uninstall it).

I have 4 different profiles set up in TS and AB, and can switch between them easily. You can run faster, cooler, and quieter, and have total control over these variables. If you plan on using this for a few years it's worth the time to set it up.

If you have the fans on max rpm then they are loud... but you only should use that mode if you *need* a lot of cooling. There is a button on the keyboard deck that toggles max fans.

My fans are silent with light loads because I set them to stay off using Silent Option's custom fan curves.

If you guys are fine with used there's a gateway available from ViPoutlet with a 2060 and it comes out too $650 currently with a 10% off coupon for signing up for their emails. There was a slick deals on it a while back for $580, but that price has expired.

Have the same laptop. Around the same time, friend purchased almost identically speced Legion 15. I liked hers better as it felt more premium and had better software. As others have said, you aren't stuck with dragon center. I ended up keeping it because as far as performance go, it satisfies.

As for the screen, it is pretty great. Have it side by side with an ultra wide, neither looks washed out and very close color reproduction. Whoever think this screen is bad must spend 2500 bucks on a laptop.
