Man, are these places ever going to offer decent little kits like this in METRIC or SAE? Instead of both in one kit. I don't buy "domestic" vehicles, but do they even still use SAE?

Domestic cars largely don't use SAE anymore. None of mine do (all MY 2000 and newer) use them.

SAE is still common on home construction hardware and some other areas.

My complaint with this set is why are the 1/2" drives so small? The 3/8" range is quite handy when I think about my own cars. However, the 1/2" drive sizes are pointless. Who needs a 10mm 1/2" drive? On the other hand I can see a few 20+mm sizes for crank bolts, axle bolts etc.

Many companies already sell straight metric (or SAE) sets ... but they are priced so high that it defeats the purpose of just buying Metric alone ...

This set looked good until I read in the description, "19 standard length 1/2 in. drive 12-point sockets." If these were 6-point sockets like the rest of the other sockets, it would be a great deal. A 12-point socket is garbage, especially in the 1/2" drive size. Try using a breaker bar with a 12-point socket and see how many bolt heads you strip. !/2" drive sockets should all be 6-point.

That is my biggest gripe too. You always see these sets and the 1/2" drive are 12 point. I don't get it. I was looking to flush out my socket set because I have had my main Craftsman hand tools since the mid 90's and over the years I seem to have lost a lot of the 1/2" drive 6 point sockets I had, and it seems I never had 6 point deep sockets. I could not find a budget brand (Craftsman, Husky, HF brand etc.) that even offered a full 6 point standard and deep socket set. If I recall correctly Husky had a set but the standard size sockets were 6 point and the deep were 12 point. Anyway, I went with Tekton as they offered 1/2" drive SAE and Metric socket sets where everything was 6 point.

They are: "Sockets and wrenches are designed with off corner loading to help prevent the rounding of fasteners"

12-point isn't really all that bad unless you are using a poor fitting socket or have a rusted/damaged nut or bolt and they allow for much more flexibility in positioning when used with a breaker bar. Practically all non-ratcheting combination wrenches are 12-point.

I just looked at close up photos. They are flank drive style. It says it in description also. OK.

The 12 point 1/2" sockets I dont prefer.
