Are you required to maintain Fi service for a certain number of months?

Thanks. So the total cost for anyone looking to get this phone at the discounted price for use on another service would be $199+$10+$10+$10+whatever the cost would be to get a phone number to port in to qualify for the $199 price. Plus you'd have to wait 90 days to be able to use the phone on another service (unless you could just pay the bills for 90 days and immediately use the phone with another carrier?).

1. Activate phone number on the cheapest prepaid service you can find.

2. Port that number into Google Fi to qualify for this deal.

3. Maintain the Google Fi service for 3 months (at the 50% off rate).

4. Cancel the Google fi service and use your new phone with the service of your choice. Total cost $229 plus the cost of your initial port-in number.

Note: I can't confirm this but you may be able to immediately use the new phone with your existing service and just keep paying the Fi bill for 90 days. Can anyone confirm if this would work or if you have to keep the Fi service actually active on the phone?

I haven't checked Google Fi plans in a while but, the last time I checked, the cheapest plan was $20. They may very well have increased since the last time I looked at their plans. If the cheapest plan is now $30, then the $10 monthly price I mentioned would actually be $15. OP mentioned that the first 3 months are 50% off.

That would bring the minimum cost to $199+$15+$15+15+the cost of the port-in number.

Last time I checked Fi and was told have to use THIS phone to keep active 90 days. So you can not use it for other carriers before this 90 days.

In Dec 2018 I paid $1,160 total out-of-pocket for my Pixel 3 XL (128GB), with the promise of a $1,000 giftcard (only good for travel) from Google Fi after 4 months. I got the phone and kept the Fi eSIM on it, but popped in my Red Pocket Mobile SIM card (pretty sure I was with them then). I made a couple Fi calls a month to stay safe, but I primarily used my other carrier. Net out-of-pocket (taxes/Fi/everything else) totaled $160 after I used that giftcard for plane tickets. I ported in using Google Voice but not my primary email.

In Dec 2020, the Fi store had some outrageously good trade-in value (compared to the typical outrageously bad). I traded in a crack S9 I got on ebay for $90 for $300 credit, and and additional $200 credit after 90 days. I popped my prepaid AT&T SIM in and pretty much did the same as last time except I made zero calls after the first month. I just let the eSIM sit and never used it. My net out-of-pocket was $170 this time. Google Voice port but not my primary email.

I'm not sure if they've changed the T&C, but for sure I haven't kept the phone on Google Fi. I believe there's no way they can lock you in because the phone itself is unlocked. The only thing that should invalidate your rebate/promo is installing the Fi eSIM/SIM in a different phone. Either keep it on your new phone or don't use it at all. Remember that you HAVE to activate on Google Fi first, then you can do whatever as long as that singular requirement is met: don't let a different IMEI show up on that Fi eSIM/SIM.

This is only for unlimited plan.. which is $35 per month.. so it is not $10+$10+$10.. It will be $17.5 + $17.5 +$17.5 = $52.5

Any other details to know?

I thought the unlimited plan was $70? So 50% would be $35 per month for the first 3 months.

$35 a month is $10 more than average unlimited plans. What's wrong with you fi? Pathetic
